Does the version of WMP make a difference?

I have one machine still with WMP v9.

Does the version of WMP make a difference to the use of GB-PVR?
Does GB-PVR use the components that are upgraded by installing WMP v10 / WMP v11 or does it use the lower level DirectX/Show stuff?

Generally no.

If you were playing .wmv or .wma files, it is probably using WMP components, so there may be slight differences between versions.
