Cannot install GBPVR version 1.4.7

Query 1
I installed the updated MS runtime VCRedist_X86.zip first as recommended
and then tried to install GBPVR Version 1.4.7 on a windows XP system.

The installation does not complete due to this error: "Could not write GBPVR InstallDIR to key /Software/DEVNZ verify you have sufficient access to that key".

I am the only person on this system with full admin rights so could someone please explain this cryptic error message and what I have to do to get this installed? I have already gone thru the FAQs found at:

Last question since I could not find my EXACT tuner in the digital tuner HW list delineated in the FAQS" Is the AverTVHD Volar Max USB tuner supported by GBPVR? The list just says Aver USB tuner.

Query 2 ... It's a digital receiver so it should work. If you have problems, run filtecheck.exe from the Program files/devnz/gbpvr folder and post the log file that it creates.

Query 1 ... I cannot recall seeing anyone post a problem like this. My best suggestion is to poke around permissions in your registry. Sorry can't be more help.

Some spyware defenders (like SpyBot) writeprotects cretain registry keys to prevent malware from installing irself, do you have any of these installed?

I have installed all the necessary virus checkers and spyware utilities and check them daily. My system is clean. I have also checked with online malware checkers, all state my system is as clean as a whistle.

As far as registry permissions, I have currently installed on my system over 100 different programs from regular MS office programs, video editing programs, audio editing programs, graphical programs, conversion programs- you name it and none have ever denied me permission upon installation. So I guess until someone from the forum comes up with something tangible I am stuck here not even being able to install the GBPVR program

The attached is a zip of an export from the registry on my machine. What happens if you double-click on the file in the zip?

I think what Reddwarf was saying is that one of your spyware prevention programs is stopping gbpvr from writing to the registry. NOT that you have actual spyware.

I think I also tried to install with my virus and spyware checkers off with same issue, but to be sure I will check again when I get home tonight.

Since I can't even install the GBPVR application which would normally insert the right info into the registry, will activating your .reg file which will manually insert the information into the registry location cause the installation program to get confused when it finds the inserted info already in the registry prior to installation completion?

Yes, I was trying to say that maybe a group in your registry has been set to write-protected so that the gbpvr installation program in prevented from writing to it. If that is the case you should get an error message if you try to install the .reg-file.

Btw: it doesn't matter if the information is there or not for the installer.

I removed the recording service manually then the install worked.

Run the following from the command line:

sc delete "GB-PVR Recording Service"

Note: Make sure you run the command line as an administrator if you are using Vista or Windows 7

Question 1: You say you have full admin rights. Do you have a password set for that account? Sometimes trying to use those rights without proper authentication can lead to similar errors.

Question 2: After you manage to install it, when adding a capture source, check the "only show detected hardware" option. That should let you know if it's the same piece of hardware. If not, check instructions on how to add "unsupported hardware" http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Hardw...aptureCard . You might be able to get it working through that.
