I thought this would be mentioned someplace but I don't see it.

the "new" vcredist file (downloaded from this site) will not install completely as the 2005 c++ version is in place and cannot be removed.

The 2005 version will not uninstall from add/remove as the original msi in /tmp can't be found.

I've googled the heck out of this, there are tons of hits about the issue, posts mentioning "download this no this no this" none of which work.

I tried downloading the version from the 1.3.7 announcement, but that as well is an exe not a .msi.

How the heck do I rip this darn 2005 version out completely?

XP sp3 here.

thanks! GVPVR 1.4.7 will not install as the new version of the vcredist isn't in place (the issue where the .ax files cause the install to break).

I'd be fine with a google link that actually worked. I've gone thru pages of "results".

If you can't un-install the vcred 2005 you have on your computer and can't install another it may be corrupt. It probably was installed too long ago to do a restore so (before I think about it too much, not had my tea yet) I would reommend a REPAIR install of Windows.

EDIT to add: You could use chkdsk to see if it can repair any corrupted files on your computer. Go to My Computer>Right Click on the C drive>select properties>Tools>under error checking select Check Now and check "repair automatically" and it will scan your files and repair when you restat your computer.

hmm....

I think the only reason the magic uninstall cpanel will not get it out is that the version strings for any msi I have found just do not match.

Can I just find the file wherever it lives, rip it out, then troll the registry and hope to goodness choose the right search strings? (info on this would be fun).

I can try a windows repair I suppose but that doesn't feel quite right yet. Maybe after I have my coffee : )

Thanks- I do need to do "something" after work today, I'm down for now : /

Any further ideas?

I left a file check util running today; nothing re disk or filesystem errors.

this seems totally a total chaos of solutions for this online.

does anyone have a library manager or similar to recommend?

Thank you;

So, Microsoft has a Installer Clean Up tool.

Or, you can do a lot of registry work.

Details here:

There is actually some neat stuff you can do with the vcredit*.exe installer, it contains really a .msi.

just posting the link for this tool in case the other forum dies seems like it could be a handy tool for those pain in the ass things that pop up when installing uninstalling programs
