Since Comcast is quickly moving towards making us all go digital I am in the process of building a new system to take advantage of it all. I've had up to 5 MVP's on the system with no troubles but since the kids have moved on I only have two. I ordered a new system to run GBPVR and expect to give it digital tuners and 2 PCH units to replace the MVP's. Reading through here suspect that the PCH units will be a great replacement for the aging MVP's.

I picked up a refurb'ed PCH A-100, and I wanted to chime in as another happy user. I have used a laptop as a HD client for GBPVR for the last 9 months or so and the PCH beats it hands down just in my ~1/2 day of playing with it.

I had been holding out for comskip so the PCH2 improvements (in addition to the low price point of the refurbs that are now available) sealed the deal for me.

I am a long time GBPVR/MVP user that has moved to HDTV/PCH/HDHomerun.
This system is a joy to use.
Thank you for all your great support.

I have no NMT/GBPVR experience, but I bought an Egreat 34a for my son and he's been using it as a stand alone media tank and he's tickled pink with it. He doesn't get much for TV where he's at and doesn't want to subscribe to dish, etc. (poor college kid) so he just sets my htpc up to grab what he wants and then brings his drive in once a week and xfers the programs over.

The only issue we've had with it is that I used FairUse Wizard to encode a video in x264 format. It works fine on my htpc and my client htpc, but the audio looses sync on his NMT - anyone else had that problem? (I posted to Egreat's forum but the support there is rather lack luster).

I have an htpc client in the living room and it's working fine, but for $159 I'm thinking I may grab an nmt for it and gain a computer back!

Thanks all for the the kind words.

@ leaded1 I thinh the refurb PCH's are going to be like the $40 MVP's at Radio Shack a few years ago, people are going to be mad at themselves for not taking advantage.

@ slr_65 I think you should post on the NMT forums, you will get a lot more feedback. My first thought is that transcoding is the issue, it is easy to make a file that is not PCH compatible spec, it's a matter of using the right profile. I'd also try handbrake.

OK, I hope your proud of yourselves . . . all I needed was a nudge to pick an NMT up as my son keeps running off with his Egreat before I get a chance to play!

I read this thread last night and went and checked the popcorn hour refurb page and they had some A-100s available so I got one coming! Can't wait! Smile

I very much like the look of what the folks here have done, I've been using XBMC on a 1st gen xbox for what seems like years but needed something that would deal with hi def stuff hence the PCH purchase. The PCH itself is cracking, aside from the fairly crap interface of course and hence this is what led me to try GBPVR. I'm sure GBPVR is ace but having followed the guide here... http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=38896 I cannot get the PCH to see anything via GBPVR. Having googled and googled and rebooted and rebooted for the last hour I give in and hope that someone here can provide some pointers on what to check etc.

Also, I have all my files on a NAS (5 disc Synology thing), I do though have a server always on. If I can get PCH / GBPVR to talk to each other would all data get to the PCH as follows...

NAS to GBPVR to PCH or is it possible to have the files go direct to the PCH as they do now?

Thanks in advance.

PS GBPVR is installed to an XP host on my network. And the error I get when I browse to my GBPVR server on the PCH is "No Content Found On This Server". PCH is A110

Thought I'd responded to this thread, looks like I hadn't. I'm another happy PCH user, even when 2 of my main channels are not viewable in HD (just as well I have a satellite card as well, or the wife would not be happy).

I'm still looking at other NMT products on the basis that I'm hoping the mvpmcx2 is usable on there. But otherwise my A100 Popcorn Hour is serving me well. Especially now that it acts more like the gbpvr server in terms of OD and skipping.

@wildpitch I replied on the support forum http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=43183

@psycik, I'm sure those channels are viewable, just not audible! I really wish I could help out here, the beta firmware cycle is starting up again, but I don't see a lot of reason to be hopeful.

For those of you using this thread to gather information before considering buying an NMT what psycik is referring to is the lack of "HE-AAC-LC audio support" at the moment, this affects NZ DVB-T (not DVB-S) & Brazil and Norway.

@mvallevand Would it be worth another round of messages on the NMT forum about this? While it doesn't directly affect me I would be willing to add my voice(message) to a thread if it would help get this resolved & I would hope there are quite a few more current NMT+GB users who would do the same.
