Should I install the new beta driver which supports dolby 5.1?
Quite a few people have reported problems...

No, don't install the beta drivers until a new version of gbpvr is released.

2 quick questions, Sub.

1. How many HD PVR units would PVRX2 support? I have this dream of getting 2 STBs and using both of them to record and watch at the same time, like 2 tuner cards.

2. I have the STB coming through my s-video port, and the remote is all set to control the STB and everything else. Could I just plug in the HD PPVR, install the drivers and use3 my current set up? I am using IR Server Suite and channel.exe now.

In theory there is no limits on this, but I've only got one so havnt tested multiple units.

Its not clear what you're asking. You'd have to setup a new capture source for the HD-PVR.

Sorry, I guess I ment to say that I could install the HD PVR, set up the the new capture source, and use the same Channelchange.exe settings and I could use my current remote setup. I wouldn't have to use the Hauppauge remote, right? In other words, the HD PVR would act as just another tuner to PVRX2.

here's something strange:
Setting the Arcsoft Audio Decoder HD to SPDIF in graphedit works (although it's 2.1), but no matter how many times I set it in the GB-PVR config it outputs in 2 channel stereo. Any changes on the arcsoft decoder are not saved when accessed from the GB-PVR config.

5.1 dolby surround hasn't worked for me yet. Stereo outputs in 2.1, while 5.1 dolby movies are mute.

EDIT: OK, ffdshow worked. Never mind! Tongue
solution: ffdshow, and set AC3 to spdif in the codecs section of the ffdshow settings.

whurlston Wrote:A streaming filter would require the same bandwidth but you wouldn't need the horsepower for encoding. But keep in mind that the above bandwith would be just for receiving the data and you would still need additional bandwidth for other Windows tasks.

I got the Blackmagic Intensity Pro, and on my system at least it's a non-issue I'm happy to say Big Grin

Streaming uncompressed (component video) 720p/1080i puts no strain on the system whatsoever. Best of all: 0 frame lag. I can connect the audio to whatever device I like and I get DTS/Dolby.
Of course I did not attempt recording but then I don't have that in mind. HDMI input is a big plus with this card but unfortunately you'll need a $285 HDMI repeater with HDCP stripping to use anything other than a camera with it.

The only problem I have is that the device is not meant for consumer use. The only media apps that support the card are GraphEdit and mediaplayer classic homecinema. mpc detects the capture source easily enough, but if the input video format changes you'll have to go through a long process of manually selecting the correct video format and restarting the application.
I've thought of writing my own app with auto resolution switching, but I'm sure very few people would be interested - plus I haven't really developed a directshow application before.

Can't really post benchmarks since I won't record, but here are some pics (screen captures from my native screen resolution so upscaled):

trailer @ 1080i
ps3 menu @ 1080i
ps3 game @ 720p

EDIT: and Happy New Year! Smile

i am able to run a blackmagic intensity pro with hd sat receiver. i had to use graphedit to create a graph and then use the graphrecorder plugin to run the graph. i haven't tried to record with graph since I only want to watch tv.
