It's nice to see that MixMan announced the Web Radio plugin, it really is a "community" plugin with code from sub, ubu, MixMan and me. I even used Jeff's CommonGBPVRUtilities.dll without knowing that it wasn't sub's code until last last week. Thank also to pz1 for trying this on the MVP and martin123 for confirming DVB Radio was possible.

Not being quite as optimistic about the need for support as MixMan, a couple of months's ago I asked sub to open up Ubu's forum to as a place to support Web Radio for now and hopefully other streaming plugins in the future. I think Web Radio 2.0 replace UbuRadion completely and we can probably consider that it is dead.

For the future as I have time, I hope to replace UbuStream too, so maybe you will see Web Stream one day.

For those of you who haven't used UbuRadio note that Web Radio uses external media players. VLC is required for the MVP/PCH and it is a good overall player on the PC client too. I've tested many versions and the current version 1.0.2 works quite well (and it eliminates some security problems in older versions of VLC, which is important calling out to as many sites as the plugin now dows). VLC is also required for playing DVB and QAM Radio I will create another thread on the digital radio and on NMT/MVP use.

On the PC the default player is actually Winamp since it allowed the most integration with Shoutcast data, file loading information etc. MixMan bundled his work on a player based on the bass.dll's If there is enough interest in the bass dll's I can port the Mediaportal internal player too. To use an alternate player in the WebRadio plugin section add the name of the player ie to use VLC instead of Winamp use.

<player>C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe</player>

A lot of this is flexible based on how you might use this so feedback is welcome.

Im considering loading this up for my MVP.

Should it work with Community Skin as is, or would i have to copy some files around etc ?

No it is only compatible with Blue and Mayhem3 and I could not figure out how to fall back to Blue. I suggest installing it and rename SkinName\web radio to SkinName\old radio and seeing if it falls back to blue.

If you don't have UbuRadio installed UbuStreamRecorder is required too on the MVP and NMT. MixMan added the link to the wiki.

Untill I get a chance to port it over to CS4, you can copy the skin files from blue and it will (should) work, just not look as nice. We designed backwards compatibility with blue for such situations.

So copy files from GBPVR\Skin2\Blue\WhateverPluginName to GBPVR\Skin2\Community(Whateverversion)\WhateverPluginName and it should work.

Soonest I can get to this for CS4 is monday, sorry.

Thanks guys.. I have a basic install of it running now. Smile

The first station I tried gave me some kind of loop recording message about Im not using the official player blah blah.. some blocker from the station itself I guess.. a one-off. Ill play with it more today.

Copying the /blue skins over to Community-SD is mostly working.. the KBps column is missing, and a few boxes need more space to hold >999 stations (!)..

If there is a station you would really like that doesn't work, give me the name and how you tried to play it and also upload your logs. Sometimes I can make it work. Also on the MVP and NMT you will get different results than on the PC, but that is another reason I use Winamp on the PC, it is usually not blocked.

One thing I am curious about is how close RadioTime get Local to your house. For me it shows Canada.

RadioTime found me.. kinda neat.
It found the local CBC station, a local station (out of 5), and the local University station. Not bad..

OK.. finally got around to trying it on the MVP (was on the pc before..)

Seems to just hang the plugin when I select any station (the one's Ive tried anyhow). I can switch to other GB functions via the remote hotbuttons,, but the Web Radio screen is locked up (cant stop or back out etc). Have to restart the MVP to clear this.

I changed <player> to the path to vlc.exe in config.xml
My VLC is 0.9.9

Do I have to config VLC in the 'capture sources' or something ?

From your logs UbuRecorder: UbuRecordingService is not installed There is a link on the wiki to download and install this separately.

The UbuRecordingService reads the vlc location from the vlc registry key.

Interesting, UbuRecordingService was installed, but it was disabled in Services. (might have been a leftover from when I tried Ubustream a while back..)

Plays on the MVP now.. Ill keep testing it when I can

Thx
