Does that mean that all channels on one frequency is on the same mux? If that's the case it's quite simple.

I wish I could give channels on the same freq./mux one particular background color in the tv-guide, that way it will be very easy to see what channels can be recorded simultanously.

I suppose you could re-number your channels in the channels tab to group the same together. And/or get creative with the channel logos?

The channel logo is an idea, different color codes can be used for those on the same mux.

I wonder if the TVListings plugin can do something even smarter. Any ideas?

I'm not sure what you mean by "on the same mux." When you tune to a digital channel, you get the entire digital stream, which may be several video and audio streams. Normally, you just throw away everything except the video and audio for the one channel you want to watch. Sub's "full TS" records the entire stream, but that's just for testing. AFAIK, multirecord just throws away less data. It keeps two (or more) video/audio stream sets. So, unless I'm missing something, you can only multirecord channels that are on the same frequency.

I thought about doing something like this, but there were too many different frequencies.

We are talking more or less about the same thing, sevral video/audio streams are multiplexed into one stream, that's called one mux in short. Now, there can be more than one mux on one particular frequency, one stream can be modulated using QAM64 and another (usually containing HD-channels) can be modulated using QAM256. In order to use multirecord you need to know what channels are multiplexed in the same stream.

There is only one mux on a frequency. All of the channels on a frequency are muxed together into a single stream. As I understand it, the tuner passes the entire stream (that is all of the channels in the mux) to GBPVR and GBPVR selects the data required for the channel that you want to watch or record.

When multirecord is on, GBPVR is able to select two or more channels from a single stream/mux/frequency.

I believe that GBPVR can record up to five channels from a single mux. You can see all this in action by starting lots and lots of simultaneous recordings and right-clicking on the recording icon in the tray and selecting Show Status.

My scan cache file lists channels as ...

Code:
T:C59,778166,0,0,8~NID:12301~ONID:9018~TSID:4097~P:4415~V:640~A:641~L:eng~PMT:4415~LCN:80~PCR:640~N:>BBC NEWS

I can see the channels that are on the same mux/frequency by looking at the "T:C59,778166" at the start of the line.

Apologies if you are ahead of me on any of all this.

I definitly have at least one frequency with both QAM64 and QAM256 channels on, I don't have the scancash file at hand right now, but I'm sure because I didn't find the HD-channels until I scanned the same frequencies twice, once with QAM64 and the second time with QAM256.

Hardly new to science, but strange, yes. Here's a couple of lines from the beginning and end of the scan cache file:

T:C,306000,6950,QAM64,8~NID:106~ONID:70~TSID:94~P:10101~V:1211~A:1212~L:eng~PMT:260~LCN:15~PCR:1211~N:>TV Innlandet
.
. Later in the file
.
T:C,306000,6950,QAM256,8~NID:106~ONID:70~TSID:41~P:4101~V:512~VTYPE:H264~A:643~L:nor~PMT:256~LCN:29~E:T~PCR:512~N:>Eurosport HD
