Lockup when a recording ends

I am experiencing a problem with my whole PC freezing which requires me to reset the system to recover.

While watching a previously recorded program when another program is being recorded everything is Ok until the recording program ends. The screen freezes and the only thing I can do is restart the whole system. When the system reboots the program that was being recorded is in the recordings ready list and when I go to view it it's all there except the length of the recording shows as 12 seconds and the skip forward buttons etc don't work.

I have an EPIA M1000 running windows XP, 250 Mb Ram, Hauppauge 350 using the TV out.

does anyone know how to get around the problems, does anyone have a similar setup without these problems.

I have the same specs as you, but 512 MB ram. Also using tv-out on the 350. My computer locks up, too, exactly when it's about to end the recording. Although in my case it seems to be completely random, it happens even when I'm not watching anything else. It happens maybe once in every 10 recordings, and I haven't found anything that seems to make it become better, or anything to make it become worse, for that matter.

About the 12 sec thingy, this seems to happen whenever the mpeg file is corrupt (which it is in our case). You can correct it by running the file through PVAstrumento from http://www.offeryn.de/dv.htm, or so other users have reported. I haven't tried it myself yet, though.

I have yet to send sub a log file, but I seriously suspect the problem not to be with gbpvr, but with the crappy epia motherboard. If I had the money I'd buy another computer. Perhaps pundit-r.

I'll try using software encoding for a while, to see if it gets more stable. The only drawback with that is pic quality, but I was fiddling around with a whole bunch of settings yesterday, actually getting a decent picture on the tv-out of the epia. Didn't think that was possible ;-)

Thanks for the input. Doesn't help me much though as TV out from the EPIA board is terrible on my TV. Does anyone know if the problem with the system locking up is due to the 350 or the via board.

I'd say it's a combination. Regarding the tv out, it was terrible for me, too, until I started tweaking yesterday. It's still not as good as the 350 (and never will) but it starts to get acceptable. I will try other decoders to see if I can get it even better.

What you need to do with your tv-out? There are a whole bunch of settings that you can play with. Try it, you might get surprised =) Make sure to have an mpeg playing and open the display config for windows. There is one tab (overlay config something something) that is only active when your playing a file. That seems to only affect the movie. Then there are settings both for your graphics card and for the tv display.

I'm still not very hopeful, when looking at a non video image such as the standard windows desktop the tv output looks terrible blurred etc.

Sure it looks kindof bad. But that's not what you want to look at anyway, it's video image you want to watch. Or gbpvr's interface. You can't watch anything else on the 350's tv-out, so... ;-)

Oh, by the way, I was on my way to upgrade my bios in order to be able to use the new video drivers for the epia. But then, fortunately, I came across the thread below. Be *really* sure you read that before trying to upgrade the bios. I won't. Upgrade, that is :-)

I have the same setup and all working fine!! no lockups also have 512Mb of ram and a well vented case not behind glass this is setting just above the tv.
