Hello All,

I have been experiencing issues now for the past couple of months at least, and after extensive testing I'm pretty sure I have it nailed as to what it is.

My Tuners comprise of 1 Nova-T 500 (twin tuner card) and 1 Nova-T PCI. The 2 Nova-T 500 tuners are at the top of the tuner list with the PCI at the bottom.

The symptoms are as thus: Overlapping recordings are being truncated regardless of remaining disk space, tuner availiabilty or any other issue I can think of. The affected recordings are always on one of the 500's tuners, and always stop when the alternate tuner is either started or stopped. Checking the logs show that GBPVR has no idea that the recording has ceased and carries on as if nothing has happened, which as other posts have noted, suggest that GBPVR is nothing to do with the issue.

Other posts seem to have addressed this issue, but to no resolution:

Here, here & here for example.

I have the latest driver (4.3.27240) from the Hauppauge site, and am running GBPVR 1.4.7. I have tried using the Cyberlink & TS mux multiplexers. I have tried a clean GBPVR install. I have rearranged the tuners.

This issue for me has become endemic recently and has gone from a once in a while occasion, to pretty much every single overlapping recording. Whether this is due to more recent revisions of GBPVR being more succeptable, or due to aging effects on the card, or some other weirdness I have no idea.

My Questions therefore are the following:

1. I've checked exhaustively on the forums but has anyone got a fix for this issue that i've missed?

2. Does the Nova-TD 500 suffer the same issue? I'm at the point where I'm willing to throw hardware at the problem, but wasting £60 on a card if it has the same issue would be painful!

3. Is there another decent dual tuner DVB-T card around that would be worth a look? Dual Tuner is a necessity as I only have 2 PCI slots. I don't want a USB solution, USB is nothing but trouble for me on anything more complex than a mouse!

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or help!

Nathan

(I have attached logs, just incase anyone wants to have a look. An example occurs at 19:58 where Doctor Who was trucated by X factor. The recording stopped at 19:58 when X-Factor started, not at 20:00 as indicated in the log . BTW this was not a bad example, just one to hand.)

Hello,

do you have the same channel lineup on each of the tuners ? I think you should have three tuners from your comments above but I'm only seeing two in the logs, (unless I can't count)

Hello Richard,

Yes, each tuner is set up with the same channel line up. The order of the tuners is:

Nova-T 500 (2)
Nova-T 500 (1)
Nova-T PCI

There are 3 actual tuners, on 2 physical cards. The Nova-T PCI was/is not involved with the issues as far as I can tell.

If you look at the Start Recording messages, you can see they are assigned to tuner 2 and then tuner 1 of the Nova-T:

2009-11-15 18:58:00.197 INFO BDARecorder:::StartRecording(Hauppauge Nova-T-500 DVB-T (2), 1, G:\Doctor Who\Doctor Who_20091115_19002000.mpg, T:C42,641834,0,0,8~NID:12290~ONID:9018~TSID:4109~P:4173~V:600~A:601~L:eng~PMT:4173~LCN:1~PCR:600~N:>BBC ONE)

2009-11-15 19:58:00.135 INFO BDARecorder:::StartRecording(Hauppauge Nova-T-500 DVB-T (1), 1, G:\The X Factor\The X Factor_20091115_20002100.mpg, T:C45,665834,0,0,8~NID:12290~ONID:9018~TSID:8194~P:8258~V:520~A:521~L:eng~PMT:256~LCN:3~PCR:520~N:>ITV1)

There should be no interaction between these two events, but the recording on Nova-T-500 DVB-T (2) stops growing when the recording on Nova-T-500 DVB-T (1) starts.

Where abouts are you looking in the log for the tuner count? Are they listed somewhere that I've missed?

Best Regards,

Nathan

Hi

I was looking in the config.exe.log .... it only loads the channel line up twice....

I can see from the recordingservice.exe.log it's using OID1 for Doctor Who and OID 3 for X factor so basically it should be using two tuners for the recordings....

Thats odd, as I have double checked and all three tuners definitely have full channel lineups in the tuner configuration.

Hi Nathan,

Well after months of frustration I fixed my problem with the Nova-T 500 the only way I could find..... I binned it and fitted a Pinnacle 7010ix instead. That has dual DVB and Dual SAT tuners. I've never had the same problem re-occur.

The Nova-T 500 was worse on some channels than others and I could never find a pattern as to whether the two channels overlapping were on the same or different muxes. There's something about the way GBPVR stops a recording which causes the driver to sometimes stop sending on the other channel. Starting a new recording would often re-start the stalled one. I could never get this to be consistently repeatable so as to pin down the exact cause.

I'm not blaming GBPVR because unless SUB was privy to the source code for the Hauppauge WINTV he couldn't copy exactly the way they do it. (It doesn't seem to be a problem with WINTV). In the end it became so unreliable I gave up trying to fix it.

Regards,

Ray.

Graham,

I hadn't spotted that one but in his post SUB did say "WinTV v7 was an entirely new development, not using any previous WinTV code."

Perhaps in a quiet moment (Big Grin he'd be lucky) he could look at the old WinTV code to see if there's anything glaringly different than the way GBPVR was stopping recordings (assuming he can access the old code).

Not realy a problem for me coz I moved on from the Nova-T 500 but might help others.

Regards,

Ray

There isnt. It stopped them the same way GB-PVR does.

WinTV6 and prior didnt really take advantage of dual tuners though, you may not have seen similar issues.

Hi SUB,

So what we can probably deduce is this is likely to be a "feature" of the driver and unless it becomes a major problem for WINTV 7 users, Hauppauge probably won't want to look into it.

Shame because I always favoured Hauppauge kit.

NOTED: SUB isn't responsible for Hauppauge drivers !!! Big Grin
