Hi,

First my hardware:
haupaugage 350pvr for recording
Xcard for output.
Asus a7n8x-deluxe
sampron 2ghz

I did a upgrade to 09112b. LiveTV works flawless and also all recorder shows.
My problems comes when I try to watch divx.
The movie starts but there's no sound and the movie freezes after 15sec.
Updated the codecs(dont know if gbpvr use them), but that didn't helped.

Did a uninstall and also removed the gbpvr directory.
Installed version 0908 instead. Now LiveTV is very jerky but watching divx workes flawless.

Uninstalled again and went back to the new version(09112b). Same symptons as before. LiveTV workes flawless but divx freezes and has no sound.

Got the following in my logs from the new version.

Dont know what commercial skip point means(not using any commercial skip funktions) and the following error : Received event code: 13

Dont know how to fix this. I'm starting to wonder if I need to do a reinstall of the whole OS.

Thanks

The Xcard is another example of great hardware but crap drivers. It is supposed to support xvids and divx files but I only found a few that it would play. If you want to play divx files you are better off playing them through your graphics card. My Xcard ended up on ebay. Shame but there you go

I assume Groover meant that this particular xvid file worked before the upgrade and didn't after. I had a similiar problem. I also have an X-Card for playback. My problems began with the install of the latest gbpv version. There were errors reported during installation when I installed over the previous version(don't remember what they were). I then uninstalled and installed again, same error. GBPVR seemed to work despite the install errors, so I continued. When I tried to playback an xvid or divx file that previously worked, it would freeze after a few seconds. My PVR-PC is very slow and old (P2 350mhz) so I never watch live TV. Just use it to record and playback. Anyway, I went back to the previously working version (9008?) and all was fine again. I don't really have an answer to your problem but it's always good to know that someone else has the same issue.

If I decide to try the upgrade again, I would completely uninstall gbpvr and all of it's directories, run regclean and then install again after a reboot. I haven't had time to try this yet.

Regarding the xcard. Most xvid's that float my way nowadays have packed bitstreams which the xcard can't read. I either have to re-encode, or play from my husbands pc which has a very good tv-out video card.

Thats one of the reasons why we parted ways. I coulnd be arsed to re-encode the xvids. However; the xcard had the best picture I have ever seen in live TV. As good as the PVR350 if a little better. Also what put me off was going to the sigma designs support BB and seeing all those people screaming for updates. Not good. Another downer for me was the poxy 256 colour limit on the OSD. Still I am happy now with my FX5200.

Darx-Starz,

Yeah, the Xcard definitely has it's drawbacks. I knew that when I bought it but at the time it was far superior to any tv-out available at the time. I recently compared the tv-out on my husbands pc (Geforce FX5700) and the xcard and the tv-out looked almost as good, maybe even a little better? Unfortunately, my PVR-pc is too slow to render video without a lot of hardware help. Soon I will build a new pc for the PVR and I will use the tv-out. You say you are happy with your FX5200. Do you know if it uses the same tv chip as the FX5700?

I have this cardthese. . However asus also do a fanless fx5700 based card here. They are not the same CS and I suspect the the 5700 is faster and can handle better rendering in respect of games. It also has more mem. Not sure how this pertains to Video but suspect it will do no harm to have a faster card. If you got one and it looks good to you why not go for it.
