I've had this happen intermittently for about 6 months now. The recording service just seems to hang/freeze. The tray icon stays green but nothing is happening.
This just recently happened again. I was away on vacation for 10 days and when I returned today none of my shows had recorded while I was gone.
I left on the July 16th and returned today, the 27th.

Any idea on why this is happening?
Logs attached.
Thanks

Mine does the exact same thing from time to time, although oddly enough it did survive my 10 day vacation intact, yet then quit twice the week after I got back. I see you had the really bad luck that it quit at 4pm on the 17th, just as it finished recording Dr. Phil (queue the jokes about recording Dr. Phil making the recording service sick to it's stomach, etc.).

It ALWAYS dies right at the end of a recording. My logs are always the same as yours... the native log just quits, the last entries are always:

Code:
2009-07-17 14:58:01.846    VERBOSE    ConexantRecorder::StartRecording() done
2009-07-17 16:00:00.180    VERBOSE    ConexantRecorder::StopRecording()

Notice that it's missing the final message at the end of a recording, such as this prior entry from the day before:

Code:
2009-07-16 19:59:01.641    VERBOSE    ConexantRecorder::StartRecording() done
2009-07-16 21:02:00.014    VERBOSE    ConexantRecorder::StopRecording()
[B]2009-07-16 21:02:00.101    VERBOSE    ConexantRecorder::Done()[/B]

After that, nothing else happens. No attempt is ever made to record anything else; livetv doesn't work either; scheduled recordings don't even fail (they only get marked as failed after the service restarts and it realizes they've been missed). Yet the recording service is still running: it keeps updating the epg and scheduling recordings. If the recording service would just crash like an honest service, we could tell Windows to automatically restart the service but no such luck.

I posted about this awhile ago, but no one cared Sad

further comments:

I've thought about running a scheduled task to stop and restart the recording service once a day at a convenient time (like 3am or something), so at least I wouldn't miss more than one night's shows. But it happens so rarely it hasn't moved very high on my to-do list.

ok, more comments:

my original thread about this is here:
http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=41714

being that I run a digital tuner, my messages are a little different but ultimately the same. a sucessful recording looks like this:

Code:
2009-04-01 11:00:03.913    VERBOSE    BDARecorder::StartRecording() finished
2009-04-01 11:30:00.147    VERBOSE    BDARecorder::StopRecording()
2009-04-01 11:30:00.147    VERBOSE    StopRecording()@1
2009-04-01 11:30:00.350    VERBOSE    StopRecording()@2
2009-04-01 11:30:00.350    VERBOSE    StopRecording()@3
2009-04-01 11:30:00.350    VERBOSE    StopRecording()@4
2009-04-01 11:30:00.350    VERBOSE    StopRecording()@5
2009-04-01 11:30:00.350    VERBOSE    StopRecording()@6
2009-04-01 11:30:00.350    VERBOSE    StopRecording()@7
2009-04-01 11:30:00.350    VERBOSE    StopRecording()@8
2009-04-01 11:30:00.459    VERBOSE    BDARecorder::StopRecording() finished

But when it dies, it does this:
Code:
2009-04-01 13:00:03.897    VERBOSE    BDARecorder::StartRecording() finished
2009-04-01 13:30:00.131    VERBOSE    BDARecorder::StopRecording()
2009-04-01 13:30:00.131    VERBOSE    StopRecording()@1

and that's all she wrote.... in both cases it gets stuck ending the recording.

Ah, I knew I had seen this problem on the forums before but couldn't find the thread yesterday, even though I had originally responded in your thread before.

I will post in your old thread with a link to this one so we can keep the same problem in one thread.

Thanks

I see this sporadically too. The recording service will have one of my cores at 100% cpu usage. I see it about once every 3 or 4 weeks. I usually just reboot my machine then and things are fine except for some failed recordings.

Not that this will help, but I've had the same problem and never found a solution. There is a post somewhere that mentions you will probably find an entry in the Windows Event Viewer, System log that says GBPVRRecordingService terminated with an error code. I never found any meaningful information about this error. I added a daily scheduled restart of the recording service. This doesn't prevent the problem, only makes it less likely to mess up more than one day's worth of scheduled recordings.

I think (poor memory though) that SlimmGBPVR had a function if the cpu usage of the recording service was above x% for some amount of time, it restarted the service.

Vauge, I know - but it's last thing on a friday here.
and not sure how that would work for multi core cpus.

Thanks
