Went ahead & ordered the 435 on Friday from NewEgg for $30 for my Xmas/birthday present. Being that I'm going to be using that with a PVR-150 hooked to a converter box (record other channels at the same time since different networks are on different channels)...will I be able to record with the 435 in the same bit rate as the 150? Just want a clear signal...not concerned about whether or not I can record at 60 frames. Will be editing whatever I record & converting to AVI/Xvid.

The bitrate and resolution are set by the broadcaster. The tuner just does direct stream to the HDD.
One hour of HD shows - Fox 4 News takes up under 7.05 GB and the last Heroes took up under 6.23 GB
One hour of 480i - about 3.6 GB

Auto-convert of TS to other format is broken in the current version of GBPVR but a script can be made to have ffmpeg or mencoder to do that. Handbrake does a decent job of of reencoding to a lower bitrate but I think the person that was trying to do that with the HD-PVR recordings couldn't get the script to run successfully. Let us know if you get a script to work successfully.

I forgot to mention that the TS files throw off comskip by a few seconds quite often. I found a thread on that topic at http://www.kaashoek.com/comskip/viewtopi...879&p=4081 but once the files are converted to AVI/Xvid the timing might be ok.

Am all ready getting over 4 GB for the 150...since I setup a custom rate higher than the stock rate. If I get what you said right...the 435 will not be as customizable as the 150?

If I'm going to use VideoRedo Plus for editing & AGK as my conversion software...is this going to matter...as long as the file is originally recorded in Mpeg2?

Tried Comskip & was not pleased with the result...especially since coming from a broadcasting background...drives me nuts when edits aren't clean.Wink

There is no customization at all. You get what the broadcaster sends you.

That process is different from what I had mentioned. Sounds like you'll be doing things manually and had planned to from the beginning.

hmm, comskip worked fine for me 90% of the time until I started using ATSC.

Actually like that much better...since I have forgotten to reset my settings when I've reloaded XP & upgraded. Whatever works & is for those of us who are braindead...prefect!

For me...found it gives me the control I want. Only takes about 10 minutes more & whatever time it takes to have AGK do what it does.

Comskip worked...but found it was like using a saber to do surgery...rather than a scalpel. It would kill most of the commercial...but leave the ending there. In that case...found it saved no time at all...since I would go through the program to cut out those pieces.

Been using VideoReDo Plus for quite a while. Even though it's commercial software...still worth every penny I paid for it.

VideoRedo Plus is the best mpeg editor out there, without question.
