Jaggy, another option that works with the NMT is that you should be able to give yourself more room to scale even on an SD monitor by adding the mvpmcx2 command line -display 1280x720 (or other X and Y values too) Don't forget to update your "MVP" setting in config.xml to match and account for the CRT overscan.

As Martin says above, if you either change your desktop resolution to 560x536, or set <InternalRenderResolution> to 560x536, then you'll see exactly the same thing on the PC. It basically comes dont do the fact you're rendering into a very square display area.

Yes I came to that conclusion last night when I read Martins reply & saw the figures "written down" in front of me. But that hasn't answered all my questions & has bought up some new ones, some of which I am sure there are simple answers for.

Why is it expanding things sort of differently, if you look at the pic's at the box I put in between 2000 & Bitrate you will see the 2000 has become 20 but the box is still lined up with the B of Bitrate? This is one of the things that is driving me nuts trying to do the skinning.

Another thing I have noticed is it doesn't seem to matter which MVP I have hooked up to a particular TV the resolution to make it fit the screen stays the same & the same thing applies to the NMT's but with different figures.....for my MVP's hooked to this TV they are 620x524 which is why they display more like the PC as opposed to the NMT's 564x532, I guess this begs the question why do the NMT's all (well all the ones I have setup & helped others in NZ setup) display GB-PVR really really wide where as the normal NMT display "seems" to almost fit the TV?

Hmmm you have lost me a bit again (you are good at that at times <grin>) are you suggesting I add -display 1280x720 to my startmeup & edit config.xml to match & work from there to account for the overscan?

Yes, start with that and maybe try this.

<MVPWidth>1200</MVPWidth>
<MVPHeight>680</MVPHeight>
<MVPOffsetX>40</MVPOffsetX>
<MVPOffsetY>20</MVPOffsetY>

also make sure

MVPSendIncrementalUpdates>true</MVPSendIncrementalUpdates> is in the block specific to the NMT

For your other comment screen position is relative so they will be correct, fonts are the problem.

If you have an MVP or NMT with the same TV you should be able to use the same values in config.xml, mvpmc and mvpmcx2 logic is close.

Thanks Martin I will try that in a minute.

Those figures I posted "620x524" for the MVP & "564x532" for the NMT are both for the same TV using the same composite connection cables etc.

AFAIK they should work the same. Maybe try the blue skin.

I would guess using the blue skin I could get away by using smaller overscan figures but I don't really see that that would help that much as there is no way I can read the fonts in blue on the TV anyway.

Anyway after your suggestion of changing the <InternalRenderResolution> setting I thought it would be a good idea to set it to 640x576 on this PC for skin development as it would give me a much better guide to work from, so I have done so & taken another screen shot for comparison. I have changed to settings for the NMT & I must say it is a giant leap in the right direction.....just unfortunately we have jumped right over the point it should be at & have ended up almost as far away in the other direction (as in the fonts are now very skinny & the gaps between items huge) pic attached so you can see what I mean

You need to choose one method or the other (config.xml or --display), as you said now you have just reversed the problem.

I chose to set the pc to 640x576 for developing skins as they are for other users as well not just for me & this should give me something that looks like it does for other 4:3 users on their TV, right?

If I forget about the others in the community that are using my skins (including the new skin I was developing for MLPanel users, that actually got me started on asking about this problem in the first place) & forget about doing any more updates for them from now on I can just develop my own skin for the "weird way" my NMT displays on my TV, but I don't see that this helps anyone else but me. But I guess if this is the best I can get it to display I will have more free time to do other stuff instead of skins etc.

Well I am glad I started this thread & it actually got me the answers I needed but in a round about fashion Wink

I am now better off when skinning on the PC by changing <InternalRenderResolution> to 640x576 so GB-PVR now displays like a 4:3 TV & this will save me heaps of time. (I tried a number of times in the past & never could get the PC screen to display this resolution)

This morning I worked out that the ratio for 640x576 was a factor of 1.1111111111111111 so I calculated that to display properly but using a width that would fit my TV it needed to be changed from

<MVPWidth>560</MVPWidth>
<MVPHeight>536</MVPHeight>
<MVPOffsetX>40</MVPOffsetX>
<MVPOffsetY>20</MVPOffsetY>

to

<MVPWidth>560</MVPWidth>
<MVPHeight>504</MVPHeight>
<MVPOffsetX>40</MVPOffsetX>
<MVPOffsetY>36</MVPOffsetY>

so now while it has a smallish border top & bottom at least the menus display correctly...................it would be nice if there was two setting for this one for displaying the menus & a different one when playing videos as I'm sure I'm not the only one that has/had odd looking menu display.
