Works for me.

As I tend to do, I couldn't help but rethink things a little after the last round of feedback. I want to thank those who have been willing to test and provide feedback for their patience and especially mention whurlston for providing the hosting and support. Cheers folks.
So I thought I was done, set, finished. Then McBainUK made a good point about upgrade-ability. In reaction to what exists now: I had been too focused on keeping the page small and compact. This led to everything being fixed in size, leaving no real room for additions and changes (and also inadvertently led to the text over running, seen on the iphone). So I decided to reset the layout, make it wider and re-orientate the tabs to be vertical rather than horizontal. This then lets me keep the height fluid and; as a result, should expand to fit the content (making it easy to add any new content). I've also tried to soften things up a little by adding the tagline: "*Developed by one guy and supported by one of the best communities on the net." (I'm open to suggestions on this.) I've tested this more rigorously in IE6+, firefox, chrome and safari and all appears well. But as always, I appear to learn something new every time I stick it up here. So if people could once again try it out and let me know what they think, that would be great. http://www.epgtools.com/GB-PVR/website/ I think we're nearly there now.

How about the tagline:

Looks great and it even works on the iPhone.

i personally thought that tabs looked better than the accordion and the favicon to do with a little work. but other than that, its really great.
running yslow on it, only gives a "C" result, but the only place it fails that it really matters would be to gzip everything. and you may want to combine the javascript into one file. bu thats the webdeveloper in me and maybe make the donate button visible outside of the tabs, so its always there. did i mention i do like it a lot (dont want this post to come off sounding like i dont, because i REALLY DO )

I really like it. Nice and clean. I also like the tag line about the forum group. I wish there was some way to let people know that you will likely get an answer from THE developer in a matter of minutes, for free. PRICELESS.
Great job!

Code: gbpvr also has a user supported and documented wiki. It has more information on getting started with gbpvr and contains a full list of the community created addons, plugins, skins and themes with which to customize gbpvr. I dunno, I'm being a little nit picky I guess, just tried reading that back to myself, and it sounded strange. Should it read the same as we'd speak? I suppose the purpose of the wiki is to provide community supported documentation. as opposed to documenting the wiki itself.

Good spot: picky is good when it comes to words (and code!).

I thought that the accordion view looked more natural. Given that the content was sliding down anyway, the height just adjusts to fit the content. reven Wrote:the favicon to do with a little work. Yep good point. Not really sure what to do with 16x16. I've tweaked it so that it's just the gb symbol with a transparent background. reven Wrote:gzip everything. and you may want to combine the javascript into one file. (Being the complete noobie) I don't really know much about gzip. As far as I know it's a server side thing. So I was going to make the suggestion to sub when I pass along the finished site. That and adding expiry dates to the elements (given that the content will stay pretty constant, making all the elements cacheable should make the site really quick on the second and subsequent visits). I also kept the jquery_tools.js separate so it would be easier to upgrade (if needed) in the future. reven Wrote:running yslow on it, only gives a "C" result Yeah, but if you run it for "small site or blog" it get's an "A". I've no idea what the difference is. It's about 120k now, gzipping the html, css and js could get that below the magic 100k mark. And if it was all cached it would fly along. reven Wrote:maybe make the donate button visible outside of the tabs, so its always there. With the layout so clean I went with putting it in the last accordian tab. Form over function (maybe - ?) reven Wrote:did i mention i do like it a lot (dont want this post to come off sounding like i dont, because i REALLY DO ) Not at all, and don't take my response as defensive. I'm only posting my thinking so that I can be put straight when I'm wrong. A lot of the posts here have made me re-investigate how to do something and often for the better. I'd also like to hear if, looking at the htlm and css, any real noobie mistakes jump out. I know that the amount of css is probably overkill for a single page. How about best practices, good habits and stuff like that.
