I'm having a problem with failed recordings (0 byte files) using Graphrecorder and firewire under Win7. Subjectively, it seems that it takes longer for Win7 to get a graph running than it did in XP. (Based on using the preview graph in graphrecorder.)

The logs show that the file does not grow before graphrecorder gives up and tries again. Would it be possible to increase the time for file size checking? I see the external recorder tab has a setting for this. I'm thinking (hoping) that giving more time would allow the graph to get running.

The logs include a check for CAPDVHS. Did you ever get anything working for this? This seems like a really solid program that would be nice to use.

A log file with a failed recording and a good recording is attached.

I use Windows 7 and firewire with no issues - are you sure its not an encrypted channel. Since the code is all in one - if you use the wait for file parameter on the external tab it will be used for graphs as well. However, if you wait too long GBPVR's own checks will fail.

As to capDvhs - I tried it initially but you can't control the filename it uses so unless you did some complicated spoofing of GBPVR (which checks for file growth) it won't work. And timeshift would be completely out of the question.

OK, I'll try the wait for file setting. It is definitely not an encrypted or copy protected channel. The second try recorded properly. Fortunately the cable channels repeat shows massively, so it gives me several opportunities to record.

Do you record to mpg or ts? If mux, which one? I use the ATI mux for mpg and the Nvidia TS info parser direct to GBPVR file writer for TS.

I always mux it using the TS info parser then the ATI mux. I have found that ts directly is often malformed and remuxing helps.

Even so firewire does fail on occasion. I have heard that apple's drivers are much better. I don't expect much development on the firewire drivers they are pretty much the original panasonics.

can you add support for graphs writing to .ts files?

since timeshifting for the HD-PVR is broken in GBPVR, the only choice is GraphRecorder. the graph works perfectly, but it can't be used for timeshifting because I presume GB-PVR tries to connect the timeshift buffer file to the MPEG-2 Demultiplexer, and you end up with no audio or video. The recorded file is perfectly okay, and plays just fine.

I'm fairly sure GB-PVR expects only MPEG-2 from a .mpg, and thus the graph is broken when attempting to play the buffer file.

hopefully it's not a big change that needs to be made?

I use this with an HD-PVR for recording and timeshifting. There is an option on the external via executables tab for recording extension(rec. ext.). Change it to .ts.

dark_half, seems the file is still an .mpg.. not a .ts.

I don't see how that change would have done the trick, since that's on the executable tab (not graph). But I tried it, and no luck. Sad

what does your graph look like.. is it crossbar --> capture --> encoder (h264 output pin) --> gbpvr file writer?

Yes my graph is the same. I am not sure why it doesn't work for you but that was the fix for me.

It should write .ts with no problem - just make sure the write is writing that as well,
