Would it be possible to check that a recording, once started, is in fact adding bits to a file? If not, maybe the recording could be restarted, with retries continued until the prefix padding period is over.

What do you think, sub?

It already does exactly that, but it'll only retry once (and add some messages to the logs abount "second chance").

Hmm, perhaps more retries?

I don't know why occasionally I get zero-length recordings, seems to be nothing to do with one particular channel, and it's hard to tell which tuner is implicated after the fact. Maybe more detailed logging required?

I second the additional retries. My failures are consistently on back to back recordings that switch from one channel to another. I get zero bytes after the channel change, but the following recording (another back to back) on the same failed channel works, making me think it just needs some more time or another attempt or two.

That seems to be pretty much what I'm experiencing. Factors eliminated include tuner and channel so there's not much left...

About 30% of my recordings end up being the second try. I know when it occurs because I get "-1" added into the filename. I have seen where occasionally, the second attempt will fail too. When that occurs, I miss the recording. I suspect those would probably succeed too if it were given another chance.
