Graham, looked at the .INI file and frequencies are as per officially documented frequencies.

I did try the scan program (see earlier post) but it gave what I described as gibberish results.

sub Wrote:Did you try that ScanChannelsBDA tool mentioned in the link above? It'll give us an indication of whether you get a poor signal on that frequency.

Does the Hauppauge WinTV software show you these missing channels?

Graham, dont know about WinTV as I dont have it. Dell seemed to supply card and assume the use of Media Center.

I reran ScanChannelsBDA and got it to work. The Channel 41 on 634166 yielded a strength of -8000 and quality of 97%. Strength is the same as several other channels but quality is down 3%.

When I first tried the scan the frequency 634000 and bandwith of 8 it says it cannot lock onto a "usable" frequency!! Even though it provides the statistics when it does a complete scan of all frequencies. After that it did produce a graph successfully

What on earth does this mean. Any use?

This is the summary of what was found

Summary of frequencies
======================

Frequency=634000kHz Strength=-8000 Quality=100%
Frequency=658166kHz Strength=-10000 Quality=100%
Frequency=682166kHz Strength=-8500 Quality=100%
Frequency=690166kHz Strength=-8000 Quality=100%
Frequency=714166kHz Strength=-9900 Quality=100%
Frequency=722166kHz Strength=-8000 Quality=100%

Sounds like you have the OEM version of the TV card which comes without WinTV, unfortunately I think you have to have the original CD even to install from the WinTv download from the hauppauge web site.

Not sure what to suggest at this point, there is a possibility that your signal is actually too strong. You say you are 5 miles from the xmitter, do you have any amplifiers/boosters in you aerial setup?

The aerial is straight from to the computer and no gadgets are involved. The signal is the same as all of the others in terms of strength. In fact slightly less than several. No reason why it should be over strong.

There has to be somthing in some sw somewhere.

Well, without trying other software I'm not sure what else to suggest.....you could try downloading Transedit...or even better DVBViewer (payed program), I think there may also be a free/demo version of TSreader. This might confirm if its harware or software, it could also give you the data to put a manual entry into the scan cache file that gbpvr creates after a scan..
e.g. mine looks like this:
Code:
T:C32,561834,0,0,8~NID:12293~ONID:9018~TSID:12290~P:14498~V:6929~A:6930~L:eng~PMT:265~LCN:38~PCR:6929~N:>QUEST

I have tried transedit which the same results as ScanChannelsBDA.

Not sure how to view/edit the Scan Cache file. What do you use?

If you have not managed to get reception on any other software then edititng the scan cache file is probably not going to help you. If you are interested it lives in C:\program files\devnz\gbpvr\bda the various parameters can be manually written but you'd probably need a successful "aquisition" from another app. the fact that you have not managed to get these channels working on other software makes me think it could be a hardware problem.

I think you may be right. However, I have looked at a complete Scanfile on this forum and it is subtley firrent in that it has an extra parameter for the GOLD channel. It is headed "E" and has a valuie of "T" which is the only channel with anything in this field. I think this is scrambled but strange that I do not get this recognised.

Also when I manually scan the 634166 frequency the scan detects no signal whilst it detects everything apparently OK when scanning all frequencies.

Is there any way of checking versions of teh scan software and/or associated files etc to see if I have something downlevel or whatever?

"~E:T" simply means that it is an encrypted channel. Does it detect anything if you scan 634000? (I think that's the proper direction for the 166Hz offset.)

You are right. If I change the manual scan to 634000 I can display the channels other than GOLD (the scrambled one).
Thats on Config only though.
