Hi all

My Dad rang to query a show he had recorded on his HTPC wouldn't play. Turned out to be a 0 byte recording. Is at this stage an isolated incident (lots of other shows record OK) and a few days ago so probably can't supply logs (??).

Machine has just been rebuilt from Win 7 RC to Home premium release, is running GB-PVR 1.4.7 with a pair of HVR1600 cards for NZ freeview DVB-T.

Show that failed was on Prime.

Is there any generic causes / settings I can change. I know this issue pops up on the forums from time to time, but thought it was more of a historical issue??

Any help appreciated Smile

You'd probably need to post the logs, and details of what recording failed so we can take a look. There isnt any known issues that are likely to be the cause.

Get him to capture the logs next time it happens.

In your case it looks like your drivers arent installed correctly and its failing to find the device's hardware MPEG2 encoder. You do have an HVR-1600 right? not some other similar model without the encoder?

Hello again

No logs yet

Only difference to usual was the EPG was broken for a few days, and this was a manual recording. have spoken to him since and he has found another 0 byte recording (which was also manual and also Prime).

When the EPG died, he set up some future manual recordings, and has since found duplicate recordings as of when the EPG sparked back into life.

Will acquire the logs, but wondered whether this may indicate something ??

Cheers

Chris

Yes, I am using HVR-1600... it looks like there might be a problem with WinTV7.. I am going to try to remove all apps and reinstall everything again....

My suggestion is to check the size of your system files. When I first got my gb-pvr, I knew I would never need more than 80 hours of saved programs. That lasted until I blew the limit and had a lot of 0 byte recordings because the drive was full. I have a bigger drive that should never run out of room ... until it did. I am thinking of a making a suggestion for people like me who forget to monitor the drive so I could have an annoying pop up that said something like "only 10 hours of recording space left" - or the megabyte equivalent. Anyway, I would check the system directory to see how much free space your father has.

"only 10 hours of recording space left"

The "Slimm GB-PVR" - alternative tray app for GB-PVR has this feature when you hover the mouse over the tray icon.

I had a similar problem on windows 7 a couple of months ago where I would 0 byte recordings frequently. Uninstalling WinTV7 appeared to resolve it.
