Yes thank you it now works for me too on Win7-64.
Strange thing though - I can only drag one folder to it at a time - if I try even just 2 folders (or a complete drive) I get;

You may need to check the box to "Run As Administrator".

Two in a week - may be too many.

Improves series lookups especially with shorter names. Also if the filename includes a year in parens eg (2010) then it uses that for the series year to help with series that have run multiple times, like Battlestar Galactica.

Yep I already had it running as Administrator. I should have mentioned that I get the same problem in XP - any more than one folder at a time makes it crash. Maybe one folder with lots of files would be OK, but GBPVR puts all recordings into thier own folder...

carpeVideo Wrote:That should work (althouth save the old export file) - although an easier test would be to create a text file and then rename it as an avi or mpg and do the vidimport on that. You could even put it in the same directory as another file that has an ampersand and use a very similar name.

Hey I finally moved my vids into one directory and checked that no results were found in pvrx2 and used the default settings in vidimport. I notice that mostly tv shows I recorded have the problem...

it's possible another scraper rewrote tags for movies when they are tv shows but seems like a lot of work to figure it out on my end.

I can confirm that some newer tv recording that did not get scraped by javawiz's metadata grabber have the " thingy and I recall seeing the weurd things long before I used ember's scraper.

is there a way to make your program force to over write my metadata on all files and do it's thing?

EDIT - also I was wondering what you recommend for fufutr tv shows recorded how I could have info in the file name or somewhere to trigger your scraper to include episode data?

I recall trying guideplus but it choked on the mcxml xml file and crashed.

Looks pretty great for tv episodes upcoming to record.

anyway thanks alot

ok it is javawiz's metdata grabber

my settings are auto and I set it to prompt when a match is not found and the file it returns to confirm is

American Idol "

quote on the end... if I press ok it writes whatever and I look in the metadata and sure enough I get this

fun fun fun

I also noticed that vidimport puts the directory name in some of the listings in gbpvr which kills me since I have begun to put all movies and shows in one directory...

I guess the only logical thing to do is figure out how I can set a batch in the transcoding section to move a file I choose as either TV or Movie and move it to the directory. Since I have multiple drives the logic would need to only use the current drive the file is on and move it to the tv or movie folder.

nothings ever easy eh?

Tvshowman -

Let me see if I can some up your issues / wishes because there seems to be a few
1) What you want the most is to include episode data in your tv shows that are being recorded by GBPVR
--- You tried guidePlus but it crashed on your guide file from mcxml.
--- You also first tried javawiz's metadata grabber which has embedded some incorrect metadata on American idol.
--- You then tried vidImport to do the same but it leaves the incorrect metadata from javawiz's metadata grabber
2) You moved all your files into one big directory of movies and tv shows - then ran vidImport and at times it includes the directory name in the import
3) You may have some files that you downloaded that you want to get metadata for an import into GBPVR

I need to take these one at a time.
1) The best way to get episode information for the guide and recording shows is when the guide is updated since the schedules direct or other xmltv source file contains more tags and information than is used or saved by GBPVR and this helps figure out the episode information. Typically I want to add the season and episode number, air data and eventually rename the file to include that info. Several utilities do this to both the guide and the shows recorded. These include Zehd's UltraXmltv and guidePlus and others. Major differences between UltraXmltv and GuidePlus are that Zehd's is very flexible and has a nice GUI and he is great on support. Also to rename files with UltraXmltv you need to have a renamer in your postprocessing.bat and it only renames newly recorded shows. GuidePlus is command line and pretty much puts things the way I like them and my support is when I am not too busy :0). It does however do a few things Ultra doesn't (as far as I know) a) it is faster since it isn't as fancy b) it does renames to add the season and ep number during the guide import so it does files that have been recorded before guidePlus was ever run. It also tries to group tv shows that are downloaded and recorded if it can. So for future I would recommend a guide enhancer and renamer solution, it doesn't really matter which one. If guidePlus barfs on a file , post and attach it and I will see what I can do. That should solve your future problem.

As to your existing stuff - let me give a brief vidImport history. It was made to grab metadata for downloaded shows and sneak them into the gbpvr database so they are in the recordings screen along with the rest of your recordings so you don't need to use the video library screen. Therefore the challenge was to take videos that could be anything (movie or tv show) and then import them. Something downloaded or from another DVR program typically only has the filename and the directory name to work with. Fortunately typical tv shows downloaded have some string with s01e01 to give further help. Often times people also have shows where the directory name is the show and the file name is a subtitle and season ep number, or they have a directory with all star wars movies etc. It also turns out that a gbpvr recording attaches metadata directly to the file as an alternate file stream. If that exists people typically want that used that rather than a lookup, also most people don't want to over-write descriptions that already exist in the database so it ignores files that are in the existing recordings export file. Together this is what allows vidImport to add to and/or recreate the gbpvr recordings database.

vidImport will never be perfect since it tries to handle too many cases with no user input but it gets there 95% of the time. Your issue with american idol may be one of two things a) its already in the database so it leaves it alone (you can fix this by running with xmlin=none switch ( I would only run this on the specific files you need new metadata for else it will overwrite everything)) b) there is hidden metadata that it is using. I guess I could add a switch to ignore that if that is what you need. c) the quotes may cause vidimport to find the same bad metadata - in which case maybe you can manually add using wiz metadata grabber. (you can also directly edit a files metadata - try notepad.exe filename.avi:metadata.xml (it may be ::metadata.xml)

As to adding the dir names - read the vidImport description it is fairly specific about how it decides to act and what is likely causing that.

So to sum up - you are probably trying to use vidImport to do something that the guide enhancers / renamers are better suited for. Using one of those will allow you do to what you need for future shows and the guide without trying to ID movies vs TV shows and move them around etc. The existing files may need a little tweaking but it shouldn't be too bad.

Wordy but I hope it helps,

How about running it via command line and posting a screen shot -
