Ok,

Other then my no sound during live tv the only remaining problem I have is that I can only record (on either tuner on the PVR-500) the current channel that I am tuned to on my cable box. Here is how I'm connected.

digital cable----cable box----splitter (other to TV)----pvr500----TV svideo

I have to have something configured incorrectly b/c I should be able to record 1 or 2 channels while watching another (if I am not watching live tv via GB-PVR and switch to my TV input).

Any help will be greatly appreciated these are the last two issue remaining (until I get my remote = )

Thanks

I am sure you have this problem when you turn on your IR Blaster (from Hauppage) in the config file. Right ??? you are the second person besides me having the issue. Did you also downloaded the latest gbpvr files like I did. Looks like a bug in the latest release. If I can find a more stable previous release !!!

I may be missing something, but this sounds normal to me.

Your cable box is only outputing one channel, so this of course is all you'll be able to record on the PVR500. Your PVR500 has two tuners, allowing you to perform two recordings at the same time, but in this type of set up, you'll only be able to record the same channel twice.

I currently do not have a remote control (I just ordered the Microsoft MCE remote and it should arrive tomorrow).

Do you mean that you get no sound while watching Live TV or that you can only record the current channel? I'll edit my post so its less confusing.

Sub,

Hmmm thats what I feared. I can get a 2nd cable box from Comcast but then I have no idea how I would be able to use that with the PVR500 since it only has one input.

So is there any way to configure my setup to be able to watch one channel and record one or two others? I don't need to use GB-PVR to watch TV.

I dont know if you broadcaster transmits analog channels on the same cable. If they do, you may be able to split the cable infront of the cable box, and plug that into the PVR500's tuner. Each of the two tuners on the PVR500 would be able to independantly tune a different analog channel. Admittedly, this wont help you get any premium channels which may be digital-only.

Can you get a cable box that has S-Video outputs? Bear in mind I don't know what I'm talking about (I don't have cable) but isn't it possible to setup one capture source to use antenna and a second cap. source to use S-Video? Just a thought.

Cheers,
Brian

I see where you are going with this but while i just confirmed that (at least) one of the 7 cable box's offered by Comcast in my area would have s-video the PVR-500 does not have an S-Video in (it has an svideo out).

What I'm curious about is if i get a cable box that has AV out and connect that to the av headers on the PVR-500 would GB-PVR "tune" to that?

What would I set the 2nd tuner to?

I think I'm going to have to get one of the new cable boxes to get this to work the way I would like it too.

Could anyone out there that has a PVR-500 (digital cable would also be cool) let me know how you get the card to record two channels?

Thank you

The PVR-500 does have an S-Video in. It has no outputs.

You're really only interested in the digital cable side of this answer.

With analog cable, you just plug the cable in the PVR500's tuner, setup two capture sources, and you're away. It'll simply let you record two different shows at once. In this senario, the analog cable carries all channels, and the dual tuners on the PVR500 can independantly tune to a different channel.

With digital cable your problem was that only one channel is being sent to the PVR500. In this senario, a lot of users also happen to get analog channels on the same cable network, so they split the cable before the cable set top box, add a capture source that uses the tuner (for analog channels), and add a capture source that uses the S-Video input on the PVR500 (for digital channels from set top box).
