Music Library Perplextion

Well....I got tired of waiting for WMA support via MVP so I started to convert my entire library over to MP3.

I got several directories converted, went into the gbpvr config utility, pointed it at my directories.

Everything show's up fine on the local gbpvr. But when I go into Music Library from the MVP there is nothing showing in the directories. If I only have one folder being monitored in gbpvr config I don't even see the music folders. As soon as I put 2 or more in I can see the folders but no music.

Any ideas on what would be causing this? :confused:

Well I figured this one out on my own.....My music library is stored on a NAS server...When Setting the music libraries in Config it uses the Drive Letters for locations.....For some reason I can not do a Browse Network from within the folder selection dialog of Config.....I can browse just fine outside of Config....perhaps this is a bug? :confused:

Anyway......I simply used the UNC location of the directories in the config.xml file instead.....bingo....works just fine.

Can you post what you did to solve your problem, so others new users to GBPVR can also learn.

Sure....no problem....

In the config.xml file there is a line for the Music Library....If you have selected a folder to monitor via Config the line will look something like this:

<MusicLibraryDirectory>My Music~N:\Disk-1\My Music|</MusicLibraryDirectory>

Since the above drive is a mapped drive on my Network on a Network Attached Storage (NAS) server the MVP can not find the folder because it does not know what a drive letter is. It uses Universal Naming Convention (UNC) for finding folders on your network.

By changing the line in the config.xml file to yuse the UNC address of the folder the MVP (as well as the gbpvr PC interface) are able to locate the folder.

You can see what the UNC location of your folder is by going into Explorer, select: My Network Places, Entire Netowrk, Microsoft Windows Netowrk, Your Workgroup, Desired PC, Desired Drive, Desired Folder. The UNC address will be in the Address BAr of explorer.

In My case the updated line looks like the follwoing:

<MusicLibraryDirectory>My Music~\\Naslite-smbg\Disk-1\My Music|</MusicLibraryDirectory>
