As before no cats were let loose! But I may have played my Wiki cards wrong in as much as a couple of people have been backed up by me asking for changes and I didn't commit waiting for this new deck...

But without full .ts support on my MVP's I may have to stick with v1.4.7 and therefore offer no further help on the Wiki. (Perhaps that is a good thing!)

Cheers

Dear all,

so if I can be forgiven for all my rantings over many other threads I would like to leave the current Wiki homepage complete for now.

I have no idea how a new Wiki will be established for N-PVR but would like to finish editing the current one to close my interference.

Just something simple across the top like?:

"This current Wiki homepage and most of the content refers to GB-PVR v1.4.7 - The latest release of this software is now called N-PVR v1.5.19, please refer to the forums for the latest information."

????

Have left wiki main as it essentially was, just tidied for legacies sake.

Cheers

I know the documentation stuff really never gets a look in but as my previous post I really did want to finish up any dealings I had with the GB-PVR wiki homepage.

Now I see this post on the N-PVR thread:

Quote:Now I see references to NPVR? But I can't find any documentation/description/information on it other than this forum.

Where should I be looking?

I could always be 'gung-ho' and edit wiki stuff to my liking but in the spirit of the GB-PVR community I always pose the question first, as I seem to have done 10 days ago, but with no repsonse. So I pose my question from my previous post once more:

As far as I am concerned GB-PVR is not dead, I'm still using it! But some kind of clarification on the homepage may be good? Actually I'm not sure why I even care, but I do.

I agree with you on this one.

I am fairly sure we all feel that way at times I know I do.

Nice, so if you agree (and in fact when it comes to the wiki one agreement often constitutes a wiki change with no further referendum needed) should I just enter that detail as described?

Thanks Alex, much appreciated, a dirty job is often a good honest job

I think with no real commitment from anyone I will have to be a spanish bullfighter and lance the bull to death, or, as happened the other day, run out of the ring and get the sack for being a rubbish bullfighter.

(disclosure) [Steeb does not in any way endorse the killing of bulls for entertainment's sake only]

To settle my interference this is what I am going to add to the top of the wiki homepage within the next 48 hours:

"This Wiki homepage and most of the content refers to the last release of the GB-PVR software which was v1.4.7 - A new configurable 'look and feel' version of this software has now been released in a beta version called NPVR. Currently no documentation is available for NPVR but please look to the friendly forums where you will find help and advice for any questions."

obviously 'forums' would have a link.

After all this is only a wiki and anyone can change it!

So I will change it, comment here or just change the wiki home!

all the best

Hi,

As a very new newcomer to all of this I would welcome a new wiki or section of the old wiki that explains and features the newer N-PVR.

There are a number of nods and winks throughout the website that assume users can drive N-PVR because they are familiar with GB-PVR. This is not always the case. I never had GB-PVR work well so I have really only ever used N-PVR. Without any form of instructions or details I find that I am just using the most basic form of TV watching (at this time). When looking at GB-PVR documentation or instructions I find that things either don't yet work or work differently in N-PVR. A new N-PVR specific area that starts with the basics, assumes no previous GB-PVR knowledge, and builds up from there would be *most* welcome.

I would also hope that as part of the N-PVR wiki update all supporting material, like new skins etc, can also be listed if they work with or are N-PVR specific.

Basically it would be most welcome if we can have a one stop shop for N-PVR documentation, hints, configuration instructions, skins, add-ons etc.

Regards,
Ian.

Hi Ian,

for me your post is a breath of fresh air, but I have to simplify to clarify.

I hope this does answer some of your points, if not please discuss!

Quote:As a very new newcomer to all of this I would welcome a new wiki or section of the old wiki that explains and features the newer N-PVR.

Historically the wiki section of GB-PVR has been upholded by a few 'banner carrying' members and can never work at the pace that the forums are answered to.

Another thread in documentation discusses a new wiki for NPVR kept apart from the 'old' GB-PVR.

Quote:There are a number of nods and winks throughout the website that assume users can drive N-PVR because they are familiar with GB-PVR. This is not always the case.

If I understand what you are saying all I can do is agree 100%

Quote:Basically it would be most welcome if we can have a one stop shop for N-PVR documentation, hints, configuration instructions, skins, add-ons etc.

I had to jump to the end of your post here! Though in an ideal world I would agree yet have to disagree.

NPVR (as GBPVR was) is entirely written by one person. This is the way. At this point we like the software or don't like the software. I personally loved this software until NPVR which gave me some problems, but they are mine!

Though the software has been created by one person he has made it eminently enhanceable for other people to 'have a say'

It hasn't got the collaboration of let's say MP and therefore may be lacking in the '1' stop shop. Which we all would like but nothing in this world is truly perfect? Is it?

Sub only concentrates on the software, and being mega helpful on the forums, documentation really is a 24th consideration to him...

Now are you saying you would like to contribute to a new NPVR wiki?!
