I bought an avermedia m150 -- replacement of m179, and need help setting it up. How do I configure GBPVR to use this card? I only see pvr-250 and Xcard in the config dropdown box.

I think you're looking at the wrong dropdown list. You'll probably need to select 'None - software decoder' in that drop down.
BTW, I could be wrong but wasn't the m179 the replacement of the m150?

As I dont directly support the M150, you'll need to add a new section to direct.ini modelled on one of the others already there (dont pick one with BLACKBIRD=1). Give it a name like below:
[AverMedia M150] FILTER_CROSSBAR=Adaptec USB Crossbar FILTER_CAPTURE=Adaptec USB Capture Device FILTER_TV_TUNER=Adaptec USB TvTuner FILTER_TV_AUDIO=Adaptec USB TvAudio PIN_CROSSBAR_VIDEO_TUNER_IN=Video Tuner In PIN_TVTUNER_ANALOG_VIDEO_OUT=Analog Video PIN_TVTUNER_ANALOG_AUDIO_OUT=Analog Audio PIN_TVAUDIO_TV_AUDIO_IN=TVAudio In PIN_TVAUDIO_TV_AUDIO_OUT=TVAudio Out PIN_CROSSBAR_AUDIO_TUNER_IN=Audio Tuner In PIN_CROSSBAR_VIDEO_DECODER_OUT=Video Decoder Out PIN_CAPTURE_ANALOG_VIDEO_IN=Analog Video In PIN_CROSSBAR_AUDIO_DECODER_OUT=Audio Decoder Out PIN_CAPTURE_ANALOG_AUDIO_IN=Analog Audio In PIN_CAPTURE_CAPTURE_OUT=Capture PIN_WRITER_INPUT_IN=Input The filter names shown above are for the Adaptec VideOh. You'll need to replace these with the names that are relevent to the M150. You can find these names using the graphedit program.

After adding this section to direct.ini, you'll be able to create a new capture source. When you setup the capture source it'll give you an option to select this new card definition.
BTW, if you dont know how to find the names of the filters using graphedit, email me and I'll help you through it.

Actually I think you're right, the M150 is the replacement for the M179. In this case, you'll need to copy the direct.ini section from one with BLACKBIRD=1

Thanks for all the replies, sub. I don't know how the use graphedit, and I would appreciate that you could help me with it.
Yes the M150 replaces the M179, which a lot of linux users has reported problems.

Add a section to the direct.ini with the following settings:
[Avermedia M150] BLACKBIRD=1 CONEXANT=1 FILTER_CROSSBAR=Conexant 2388x Crossbar FILTER_CAPTURE=Conexant 2388x Video Capture FILTER_TV_TUNER=Conexant 2388x Tuner FILTER_TV_AUDIO=Conexant 2388x TvAudio FILTER_ENCODER=Conexant 2388x MPEG Encoder PIN_CROSSBAR_VIDEO_TUNER_IN=Video Tuner In PIN_TVTUNER_ANALOG_VIDEO_OUT=Analog Video PIN_TVTUNER_ANALOG_AUDIO_OUT=Analog Audio PIN_TVAUDIO_TV_AUDIO_IN=TVAudio In PIN_TVAUDIO_TV_AUDIO_OUT=TVAudio Out PIN_CROSSBAR_AUDIO_TUNER_IN=Audio Tuner In PIN_CROSSBAR_VIDEO_DECODER_OUT=Video Decoder Out PIN_CAPTURE_ANALOG_VIDEO_IN=Analog Video In PIN_CROSSBAR_AUDIO_DECODER_OUT=Audio Decoder Out PIN_CAPTURE_ANALOG_AUDIO_IN=Analog Audio In PIN_CAPTURE_I2S_OUT=I2S PIN_CAPTURE_656_OUT=656 PIN_WRITER_INPUT_IN=Input Ultimately we need to replace each of the lines above the mention Conexant, with the appropriate settings for your M150. Download and run graphedit from http://www.devnz.com/downloads/GraphEdt.exe Starting with the FILTER_CROSSBAR, use the graphedit menu option to "insert filter". Browse down to the "WDM Streaming Crossbar Devices" section, and click the '+' to expand the section. Here you should find the name that is appropriate to your capture card. Type this new name into the direct.ini. Repeat this for each of the following for settings FILTER_CAPTURE, FILTER_TV_TUNER, FILTER_TV_AUDIO, FILTER_ENCODER. Then give it a go.

Here is what I came up with:
[Avermedia M150] BLACKBIRD=1 CONEXANT=1 FILTER_CROSSBAR=AVerMedia AVerTV MPEG Crossbar FILTER_CAPTURE=AVerMedia AVerTV MPEG Video Capture FILTER_TV_TUNER=AVerMedia AVerTV Tuner FILTER_TV_AUDIO=AVerMedia AVerTV TvAudio FILTER_ENCODER=AVerMedia AVerTV MPEG Encoder PIN_CROSSBAR_VIDEO_TUNER_IN=Video Tuner In PIN_TVTUNER_ANALOG_VIDEO_OUT=Analog Video PIN_TVTUNER_ANALOG_AUDIO_OUT=Analog Audio PIN_TVAUDIO_TV_AUDIO_IN=TVAudio In PIN_TVAUDIO_TV_AUDIO_OUT=TVAudio Out PIN_CROSSBAR_AUDIO_TUNER_IN=Audio Tuner In PIN_CROSSBAR_VIDEO_DECODER_OUT=Video Decoder Out PIN_CAPTURE_ANALOG_VIDEO_IN=Analog Video In PIN_CROSSBAR_AUDIO_DECODER_OUT=Audio Decoder Out PIN_CAPTURE_ANALOG_AUDIO_IN=Analog Audio In PIN_CAPTURE_I2S_OUT=I2S PIN_CAPTURE_656_OUT=656 PIN_WRITER_INPUT_IN=Input Live TV works, but with vertical bars across the screen. the bars are thin so I can still see the picture. But the picture has almost no color. Audio is fine.

Can you take a screen shot an email it to me? I'm at work now for the day, so may not be able to get to it instantly.

You could try setting CONEXANT=0 in your section of direct.ini, then restart the Recording Service by pressing the OK button in the config app. Let me know if this makes any difference.
