bulkbagger Wrote:Hi all,

I am having a problem with the application and I hope someone has an answer to the following problem.
Whenever I run Netflix TX Desktop I get a "Unhandled exception has occurred in your application" error.
I am using Windows XP Pro and I have tried it on 3 separate PC's. with the same error. Any help would be appreciated.
Here are the details of the error.
Thanks,

Hey Tony,

Is this your first use of the program, or is this a new problem?

There appears to be a problem with the database file "movieinfo.ntf" either the file is missing, corrupted, or you are opening with a start SGID = 0 and you have no movies in your queue. Let me know if this is the first time you are using the program and if the movieinfo.ntf file is located in the same directory as the .exe files and I'll help you out from there.

A long time ago I use to be a plugin developer for GBPVR and I'm looking to get back to using GBPVR / NPVR.

The popcorn hour with mvpmx - as I understand it - creates an http stream of the GBPVR intereface. When you click on a file to watch, it (mvpmx) streams the file to the devices.

Another way to ask the question: If I had a 1 server and 2 client's of NPVR - where the external app was installed on the server. From one of the client NPVR, can I use the external application and watch hulu or netflix?

It seems from your earlier answer that this would not work today?

Thanks

Hi jrock,

Since my program runs externally, I don't think this would work. You can either install the program on each client, or try whurleston's program that runs netflix inside of GBPVR. I am not sure what the program is called, but if you search for his ID and netflix you should find it.

Also, if you are interested in creating a NPVR plugin that accesses my database I'd be happy to help.

Hi, thanks for the reply.

This is my first time with this program. I have installed it on a number of computers all with the same result.
All installation files are in the same directory. " movieinfo.ntf " is in the same directory all the rest of the files. It's showing as 296 KB in size.
I hope this helps...

Thanks,

Tony

None of the netflix plugins will work on an NMT or other extender since they use silverlight to play the file and can not stream it to NMT unencrypted.

The only thing that I know of that will allow some extenders to do this is playon

Good point, whurleston's program opens the movie in an external IE window, I forgot about that.

Hi Tony,

First a question:

You have not run the database update to populate the movieinfo.ntf file, correct? This has to be done before you can use the program. Is the database update not starting when you open the program? Or are you hitting alt-F4 to close the update window?

If it isn't starting then close the program and delete the movieinfo.ntf file. Then copy/rename the movieinfo_blank.ntf file to movieinfo.ntf. And then follow the below directions.

A couple of things for you to do:

1 - It appears you have not populated the database yet, when you first run the program it will run a database update. If you do this through Netflix TX Desktop.exe you will lose the use of your computer while it is performing the update (first one is about 2 hours, subsequent ones are about 15 minutes). So I recommend that you run the Netflix TX Database Build.exe program to populate the database, you can just minimize it and leave it run in the background. Once the program finishes you should be able to open the program without a problem. (note: you should setup a scheduled task to run the Netflix TX Database Build.exe program daily, it will only actually run as often as you specify in the options screen)

2 - If it still gives you problems, open Netflix.com and make sure you have programs in your watch instantly queue. Or, you can edit the netflix tx viewer.ini file and change the line "Open SGID=0" to "Open SGID=307".

Let me know if this doesn't fix it, or if you ahve quesitons, and I'll get you a test verison to try.

DH,

Thanks for your quick reply.

I deleted the movieinfo.ntf file and made a new blank copy of it.
When I initiated the Netflix TX Database Build program and it runs for about 45 seconds and then it shuts itself down.
I tried changing the value of SGID to 307 with the same results. 45 seconds and off.
I have plenty of movies in my watch instantly queue. No matter what I do the Netflix TX Database Build.exe program shuts down after 45 seconds or so.

Thanks for all your help.

Hi Tony,

Couple of things:

1 - Do you have a cookie set up in Internet Explorer? (If you go to http://www.netflix.com in internet explorer, are you logged in?)
2 - Can you send me your log files. (in {main app directory}\movieinfo\logs)
3 - Go into the netflix tx viewer.ini and change the line Time to renew to Time to renew=1.
4 - A long shot, but make sure the movieinfo.ntf file is not set to read only
5 - Retry the database build file and let me know what happens.

OK, with that I should be able to solve this.

DH,

I think I know why it's not working.
From your last reply, I need to logon to Netflix.com.
Well my account is for Netflix.ca in Canada.
Your App. I assume is pointing to Netflix.xom website. Same service but different domain.
If this is indeed the problem then I hope that in the future there can be a selection available
for either service.

Thanks for all your help.
