I can't setup these cards. Not sure what else I should be trying. Have registered HCW_MCMPEG2MUX.AX successfully.

It seems you don't have installed (registered) the audio and video encoders.

That should not affect a digital tuner, only analog. It's failing on connecting the filters in the graph but I'm not sure why. Maybe try a to reinstall or update the tuner drivers.

I just upgraded my htpc box a month or so ago and also put win7 on it. I have been giving win7mc a chance and I don't think I needed to install the capture card drivers to get that going - forgot about that.

So I installed the latest drivers and the AverMedia media center because I remember when I was first setting these cards up with gbpvr I think the avermedia mc ended up copying something that was required.
I got a little further - to the channel scan but no signal.

I am trying to use the analog side of these cards since I'm on cable here that's still 95% analog (some qam).
Wondering if something is needed in the AnalogDevices.xml? I tried copying and modifying the entry for the avermedia m-150 to m-780 but that didn't help. Not sure what npvr is looking for there (doesn't seem like it's the full device name like the log lists).

Any ideas why I have the two log entries about the "Mainconcepts" encoders?

You don't need the Mainconcept encoders as your card has a hardware mpeg-2 encoder; the only bit of the SoftPVR set you need is the mux (in order to produce the required .ts format), which you apparently have already installed.

Hmm. I tried registering HCW_MCMPEG2MUX.AX again from an elevated cmd; it said it was successful. That is the right mux isn't it?

upgraded to 1.5.28 but still getting the same results...

I do have win7mc running (not watching or recording). I'm stopping the receiver service (ehRecvr) when trying to setup devices in NPVR. Can't think of any other external app that could be creating this problem.

I really like the features of these cap cards - analog and digital tuners, hardware encoder, pcie, under 100USD a piece - but I always have trouble getting them to work with software.

I got the Hauppuage MPG mux from an early post on the forum and found that I had to change the name of the file to hcwmcmpeg2mux.ax. Looking at the properties of the extracted .ax, the internal name didn't match the filename, it didn't use the _ between hcw and mc...etc. After I did this and re-registered (using the new filename), the analog side of my ATI 650 was recognized. I might be all wet about this, but I think this is what I did to get it working. If you got the file from this forum, take a look at this. This might be evident in the logs, or by using a filter manager program like GSpot or Graphedit to look at the properties.
