Did that patch fix your lockup?

The patch did not make a difference. I was hoping with NPVR we will finally get a fully functional PC client. Oh, well, I am surprised that NMT has better buffering given how much more powerful my PC is. The biggest complaint about NMT is the slow response (understandable) to remote presses given how fast they are with the main tv, or a successful client setup.

Reproduce your lockup, then post the client npvr.log and server nrecord.log, along with the time the lockup occurred, and I'll take a look.

BTW, you did apply that patch to the server didnt you?

Huh?? To be honest I can't see ANY DIFFERENCE AT ALL between the key presses on my PC & using the NMT!

The only times I have seen a difference is when I have had a network problem ie. the dog has partly broken the network cable to the NMT (how it actually still functioned at all the way it was broken is way beyond me) or when the ports on out router/switch started to go faulty, then I could see a slow response from the NMT to key presses.

What sort of difference are you seeing?

Certainly the PCH lags a bit, it's not as bad as the MVP but it is noticeable to me although not enough to worry about, and some people might miss animation, for me it's about the content anyway and PC playback doesn't cut it for me on my desktop or ION client.

@zaldwalk are you still using the native NMT player instead of mvpmc's as you talked about here http://forums.gbpvr.com//showthread.php?...post379275 Timeline issues should be nearly eliminated on new recordings.

Yes you have said this before as well & after you said it I tested it again to see if I was going mad or something & I still can't see any difference at all between the speed of response to key presses on the server or on the TV screen using either of my NMT's

Well, I do not usually care, it is the family used to immediate response from GBPVR and other devices. What often happens is that they keep pressing thinking the first press did not work, and then end up somewhere they did not want to go. Sometime NMT locks up in the middle of something as they tried to do too many things (pressing 3 skips in a row). The lag can be worse if the server drives are not spinning, or sometimes for random reasons the lag is long (during playback etc). I have the basic skin, which is not very pretty. In one NMT, I have the NMT directly bridged with the GBPVR server on a separate Ethernet card. In another, it is connected to a router. No real difference in speed.

I do not use GBPVR directly anymore because the machine is old, does not play 1080p, and NMT playback is nicer with little maintenance required. Also movie cataloging and playback is much superior especially using YAMJ. What prompted me initially to buy NMT was the lack of support for MyVideos and no real alternative. But then I bought another one and decided not to upgrade my GBPVR machine. I also use an EEE box as a GBPVR client mostly for analog playback which is OK and XBMC for movie playback (programmed remote to run a little program that will switch between XBMC and GBPVR). Playback is inferior to NMT (TV is 1080p), so that may get replaced with an NMT too.

I do need a fourth playback device upstairs, so I was hoping for some solid client support from NPVR so I can use a small-factor PC (I am considering this) with NPVR client and some plugin for the movies. But I cannot do that with the stutter in livetv/recording playback as all my content will be ATSC HD material.

Martin, I am actually not using the NMT player anymore, I could not give up on comskip support. So I have to live with the not so perfect timeline issues with TS files (jumping back near the beginning, or quitting all together after several skips as I rarely watch shows continuously).

Having just told you my life story, I am very grateful to Sub and Martin for all their hard work. My family and I were just spoiled by our original GBPVR setup with snappy response and trouble-free playback. As far as client support at the moment, I either get stunning playback with slow not-so-pretty UI (some ts timeline issues), or great UI but no livetv support, but not both.

I did apply the patch to the server. Please see post #11 for logs. I do not have the lockup problem, I just get choppy/stutter playback on livetv/recordings, but playback through Video is fine for same files.

Did you definitely install that patch on the server? I know exactly why live tv was stopping on PC clients, and that patch fix it (and was confirmed by Trummel and others). If its still locking up in live tv, post the logs I asked for and I'll take a look.

Given the timeline issues you're reporting on the NMT, it sounds like you dont have the lastest stuff, which gives a very good timeline with TS files on the NMT.

EDIT: was typing this while you were posting at the same time.

Let me know if this helps with the choppiness/stuttering.

Also temporarily try disabling all the audio decoders except AC3 to see if it helps (or MPEG1 Layer2 if that is the audio you're using).

Well, I am now getting this weird error "Live buffer directory XXXX does not exist" on the client when trying live tv. Of course this directory is not on the client, it is on the server. It worked last night fine. I see nothing in the server or client logs after this error. Really strange.
