Slate Skin

Awesome sub. I was quietly hoping for this development. The poll Martin conducted certainly supports this notion: a super-majority (of the few who voted) use either Default or Slate/Wave, so if Wave becomes Slate and Slate becomes Default, then almost everyone is happy out of the box.

Yep, this is a great decision by all involved. One of the most-requested wishes on that big wishlist thread that was running a while back was for more visual eye-candy, and using Slate as the default skin will go a long way towards achieving that.

Of course, for those of us producing plugins it makes the skinning more of a challenge. I'm just glad Hairy completed the skin for the System plugin before retiring

Upgraded from Wave to Slate last night and it is a fantastic skin. Very grateful for all the effort put into this and it's great news to hear it will become the default.

Just a heads up... I've had a talk to Hairy about using Slate as the new default skin. Thankfully he was happy with this, so expect to see more prominent use of it in the near future.

Will Two-Tone or Overlay become the default? And which background will be the default? The planned backgrounds for the Home page and wiki will be the default nPVR background as we reckon it will look nice .

I've only been playing with them for a couple of days, so have settled on a favourite yet, but I quite like Background_-_Texture_-_Stone.JPG and Background_-_Abstract_-_Graddiff.JPG.

Background_-_Abstract_-_Bokeh.JPG and Background_-_Images_-_Flowers.JPG also look nice, but I suspect they wont be as widely liked.

I have modified the Settings screen to show you the different background options in a skin, and allow you to dynamically change between backgrounds in the same skin.

Will Two-Tone or Overlay become the default?

Interesting question - I'm using Overlay now, because the graphical look was a little more appealing and a little more different from Wave. However I'm finding the right-side layout a little off-putting. So I'll probably give Two-Tone a try for a few days. I suppose if I had my druthers I'd take the graphical look of Overlay with the layout of Two-Tone... Over-Tone!

And which background will be the default?

For my $.02, either of the two 'Wave' backgrounds make the most sense as a default. It'd be really nice if sub could add a background image selection to Settings, next to the Skin setting. The background ought to be somewhat independant of the skin anyhow.

In list view in music/video/picture library, I definitely prefer the files names to be on the left and graphics/info on the right, so you can be sure the two-tone layout will be used for those screens.

I also prefer the Two Tone layouts, and the Overlay color scheme.
