I've been a little dissapointed as it seems i am not going to be able to make the transition over to NPVR. I appreciate your hard work sub, and love the new look of NPVR, and am hoping you might be able to shed some light on what i should be looking out for to get this going. I have not been able to get playback going properly with any of my clients, while all work fine in GBPVR. All video is stuttery and dont seem to be able to get it straightend out. I have tried many different decoders and none seem to be doing the trick. Most of my playback is mpeg 2 ts files.

My clients are all hard wired, one is on win 7, one is on xp sp3, neither playback video smoothly, server is on Win 7

Is the client implementation somehow different in NPVR than i GBPVR, i do know that GBPVR filesharing mode is what works best in GBPVR

Thanks

The client mode in NPVR is effectively the same as GBPVR's Streaming Mode.

Thanks for the info sub,

I guess i am out of luck then and i have never been able to get smooth playback using streaming mode on GBPVR either.

Are there special requirement that i should be aware of that is different from using the file sharing mode that is working for me in GBPVR. I am still puzzled by why it works one way and not the other.

Any chance we might see file sharing mode in NPVR (my guess is probably not)

No, I wont be adding file sharing mode to NPVR (it was only really there in GBPVR for DVR-MS recordings, but never really worked for them). I'll probably be able to look into why streaming is not going so well for you though. I've run out of time today unfortunately.

Can you apply the attached patch, create c:\temp directory, and set HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\NPVR\LogClientStream=1 (DWORD) (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\NPVR\LogClientStream on a 64bit Windows install), then reproduce some stuttery video for about 30 seconds playing a recording, then post the c:\temp\streaming.log file. Thanks.

not to be rude but is there supposed to be a file attached or just the reg settings and directory instructions

Thanks

I setup a client on my ION for the first time since NPVR client support came out and I didn't have any stuttering from my HDPVR h264 recordings. However considering their relatively low bitrate of 13 Mbs, which has no issues on the NMT, I noticed that the typical streaming on the client was 40-110 Mbs and higher. I would suspect this high ratio is related to the retries that are in imagn's log's. I will try ota ATSC which have a higher bitrate later this evening.
