well it fixed what ever was wrong

list the date and time of the following files (the ones affected by patches):

I probably stuffed something up installing the patches
might try installing each new one and see what happens after each one

that did seem to be an odd mix of older and newer files. the three december files were the original 1.5.36 files, but the two Jan 19th files didn't really correspond to the dates of any of the recent patch archives. the only thing I can think of is that you extracted the patch file using Windows' .zip handling and didn't Unblock the file first, so you got the date and time you installed them rather than sub's compile date/time.

all slightly mysterious, but as long as it's working now.

If NTray is running it blocks some file updates but not everyone remember to exit it.
