What's holding me back has more to do with my setup than with NPVR. I've got this one unique analog tuner from a bygone era that will hardware encode DivX, and I love it.

I still plan on playing with NPVR sometime, so it's nice that you can have both simul installed. But I don't anticipate maining NPVR until the tuner dies or I lose access to an analog source. Once that's gone, I'll be an eager convert, and hopefully by then, you guys will have generously beta-tested the wrinkles out for me too Wink

As far as the utility of this thread is concerned, I don't see anyone mindlessly bashing anything, and I do see some misconceptions being addressed. That seems useful.

The vertical menu would be a backward step
Once you start using npvr the horizontal menu makes sense in my opinion

I absoulult disagree, horisontal menue is like working in a keyhole.

Buts it quicker once you get into the recordings for example to switch between pending / new recordings etc

The main menu would probably be better if it was still vertical as far as been able to see all the items but really I don't use it that much, be different if I had lots of plugins.

If you learn your hot keys the menu orientation doesn't matter too much

I feel stupid for saying this to you, Martin, but what is the navigation problem? For me live TV is far better in nPVR on the NMT than it was in GB-PVR.
I can go skip forwards and backwards for a start, which I couldn't do before, and I can even do it on the MVP now too!
Maybe my GB-PVR setup had a problem? Or have I missed what 'navigating' is?

I am not able to use long or short skips at all in LiveTV to watch something I missed, if it moves at all it could jump to the beginning of the file in error. Navigating in work-in-progress recording uses the same logic as GBPVR did which in .36 works pretty well and the MVP pretty much uses the same logic for saying where in the file it is so it might be more accurate.

My main reason for not moving is that I currently edit many of my recordings data, such as Episode Title, Subtitle etc and for this I use WizEpisodeTweaker (I like to add a 'zero' at the front of all the childrens recordings so they are at the start of the recordings lists).

If I could find a way to do this easily for NPVR I would probably change fairly soon

my reasons for not changing are a couple of (analog tv) features of gbpvr that i miss, foremost of all the ability to switch between analog audio channels (dual audio broadcasts), then the missing teletext and therefore subtitles. also, saving the current live buffer would really be handy.
and i'd really like the window to come up in the set-up 4:3 ratio, not 16:9 always.
oh, and i think the epg update can't be configured to not wake up the pc.
otoh, i like the new fast live view.

Hi, what I miss from GBPVR is the ability to protect a folder using a password (with protect.txt).
I can't live without protecting content with strong language etc from my 11 yr old.
Thanks Sub for all your efforts, sorry if it's in NextPVR and I just haven't found it.
