Forum problems?

I'd temporarily renamed the pmwiki directory. A lot of the traffic to the website over the last 24 hours was focused on trying to get the wiki to download files from elsewhere on the file system. (I havnt been looking at the web logs regularly though, so this could be just the normal level of people trying to gain access)

I was able to notice what happened on the last outage if it helps. Everything started to slow a bit and I noticed there were a couple of 100 users. I used the button at the bottom and noticed these users were responding as guest to what looked like random posts. I got back at there were 400, 600 guest users replying to posts and then database error and then the crash.
It does look like a bot trying to login is going wild. Martin

I've spent most of the last two days trying to find the cause, but I've been unable to so far. Painful...

It's already started at 200 guest users so you might have to make this a private board for a while.

Yep, we'll give that a go.
A sad thing is the mail from this ISP is often marked as spam and not delivered, which makes it difficult for new users to register.
