This isn't really a support question, but I was wondering if anyone has experience of using XBMC and NPVR on the same machine. Is it a neat solution, or a bit of a hack job?

I've seen several friends media centres running on XBMC, but of course they have no tuners. NPVR is in my mind the best PVR software, but there is a lot to be said for XBMC as a media file viewer.

Ideally, I'd like something like an XBMC button on the NPVR main menu, and an NPVR button on the XBMC menu, but I imagine this'd be a challenge to implement! Big Grin

It's a piece of cake from the NPVR side. Just create a custom task to either call XBMC (or a batch file or whatever) to launch it. I'm sure XMBC will have something similar for that side of things.

I'd actually take it further and create a batch file that kills NPVR, launches XBMC, waits for it to exit, then restarts NPVR. That's how I handle playing blu-rays (in TMT3) anyway.

Speaking of the devil, Sub: Will there be support for playing BD in npvr?

Hi imilne,

That's very interesting, didn't think it would be so simple. I might have a go at that. How would I activate the batch file from a menu icon?

I see one of your (in progress) plugins is Videos+. This looks almost exactly like the XBMC functionality I'm trying to achieve, is it still in development?

I dont know. Maybe in the future. It's not something I've ever experimented with.

You just add it using the Plugins part of the Settings screen. You'll see an option for Add Custom Task.

Yes, it's still something I very much want to do, but the majority of my time is currently taken up looking after my baby boy so development on it has all but dried up. I've managed the odd spot of programming over this last week though, so hopefully I'll be able to return to it shortly. Feel free to fire any ideas or wishes you might have for it into its thread.

I use XBMC and NPVR on the same machine. I've set them up on my Harmony remote as separate devices, and that will close one program and open the other when I change activities.

lol, okay it seems there's a load of people telling me that this is the way to go. Hopefully this weekend I'll get a look.

Anyone have a batch file they can share, or does everyone use Eventghost? I use Hauppauge IR32, so I might have to write commands to irremote.ini

Thanks Smile

You won't need much. The following was for GBPVR to launch PowerDVD, but should give you some ideas. It killed GBPVR rather than left it running because I used VMR9 FSE which won't let anything else run in front of it.

Code:
taskkill /im pvrx2.exe

"C:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDVD\PowerDVD.exe" x:

start /D"C:\Program Files\Devnz\GBPVR" PVRX2.exe -direct "Live TV"

Note PDVD is run "normally" so the batch file will wait on it. PVRX2.exe is run with the start command, which means the batch file won't wait on it before continuing (or exiting in this case).
