Thanks sub. Tried the setting. It seems that having the long buffer setting on true makes it take a slight bit longer to crash. It might have taken twice as long as usual but that isn't much perhaps 10 seconds instead of 5. Maybe I'm just fooling myself here though?

I'll need to transfer the crash.mdmp file to another computer to compress and attach it. Will do so shortly. For what it is worth the Windows crash report dialog offers the following:

Unfortunately there is nothing obvious in that dump file. It looks like it had a problem allocating some memory, but I cant tell what the memory was being allocated for, and how big it was.

Have you tried changing video renderers to see if it has an effect?

From your logs, it doesnt look like your problem is directly Colossus related, since NRecord.exe is the only thing using your Colossus and it doesnt crash. Instead you've got NextPVR.exe crashing, so likely to be something to do with the decoders / renderers you're using (and/or video card).

Thanks sub. Weird, the recorded files play beautifully and pausing the video allows it to play indefinitely. I'll fiddle with the decoders/renderers and see if I can get it to work.

Well, I can do some recording, and the pause/play thing works (otherwise it crashes). Couple of questions.
1. Anyone know how to get ac3 via spdif working with npvr? I'd rather have the original ac3 than 2 channel derived aac, or I'll go back to wintv (which I don't like that much).
2. Anyone know how to change the bitrate settings for recording?

Changing the bitrate settings in the Arcsoft capture software seems to work. And I think the workaround earlier in this thread also works. I've had no luck getting the Toslink audio to stick. I've got it set in both the Arcsoft and Hauppauge programs and it doesn't stick for NPVR. I've been hunting for an answer with no luck.

I've been working to get my Colossus card running, and I'm working through everything in this thread, but I've run into a catch.

I have two different versions of ASVid.ax in three different folders, all in c:\Program Files (x86)\ (WinTV\WinTV7\Codecs\H.264, dated 4/1/2011; ArcSoft\TotalMedia ShowBiz\com.ArcSoft.VEA.ArcCodec and ArcSoft\TotalMedia Studio\MVCodec, both dated 7/23/2010).

Two questions: Which folder do I place the ASVid.log in, and would different versions of ASVid.ax conflict with each other?

I have used both AC3filter & FFdshow to get that going in the past.
Try ac3filter and click use spdif, make sure passthrough is ticked on it's system tab.

I would start with the version in ArcSoft\TotalMedia ShowBiz\com.ArcSoft.VEA.ArcCodec, which has all the extra codecs and dlls. The version in WinTV7\Codecs\H.264 will work, but is the minimum. You will probably have to register the ASVid.ax that you want to use.

The only conflicts I've encountered is that the ArcSoft programs like to overwrite with their own settings, but I don't use them.
