I an running the latest version of NextPVR and have been having problems getting XP to "Sleep". The first problem was the NPVR screen saver which was causing NextNPVR.exe to run at about 35%. This happens with both "Random Photo" and "Fixed Image" but not "Cut Out" which will allow it to sleep. I now have the screensaver as "None" to eliminate the NPVR screensaver. However it will only always "Sleep" if the time is set to 5 minutes, if it is set to 10 minutes or more then it often wont sleep.

Are there any useful tools to help diagnose sleep/standby problems?

if your cpu utilization is that high you probably don't have the DirectX runtime update installed - this causes NextPVR.exe to fall back to software rendering which is CPU intensive. you can check your NPVR.log for the error.

the runtime is linked in the first post of the sticky in my signature

I seem to remember that the first time I ran NPVR it warned me about the lack of DirectX so I installed it. After seeing this thread I installed the specified runtime package in case it was a different package. In Playback mode NextPVR.exe runs at around 15% and in Live TV a little less in XP on a 5 year old 3GHZ P4 processor. After a reboot it will usually Sleep with a 10 minute setting but after running for about a day it wont sleep unless the time is reduced to 5 minutes.

I have this same problem. Is there a fix?

Try the "MCE Standby tool" mentioned above. It helped me identify my problems. You can watch it count down to zero and see if anything happens to reset the count.

Fresh install on XPSP3, with all the pre requisites including direct x runtime. After a recording, the pc doesn't hibernate.

Are you sure you really want the computer to "Hibernate" while running NPVR as it wont be able to wake to do scheduled recordings? I set my XP server to Hibernate = Never and Sleep = 5 Minutes.
