Try this one http://www.gbpvr.com/DirectXRuntime.zip. It might help.

Still no joy. I do have the option of moving this machine to Win7 (which some of the forum posts seem to indicate is a good option), but if there's anyway to determine if this will help beforehand (rather than having some hardware limitation, or missing some obvious setting) it would obviously save me a whole heap of bother. Theoretically should this hardware rendering work on any machine or is there a minimum GPU spec required?

Do you have Windows Media Player installed? If not I'd try installing 9 and then 10. However if this is for your client 2, I wouldn't bother.

wmp11 installed and working on client 1 (main lounge TV), so not that.
I don't expect much from client 2 (kitchen) so am happy that it still chugs along at all!

It did not help here either, I'm beginning to suspect that it has to do with whether the hardware supports DirectX or not.

It's either hardware or xp. I stuck npvr on my modestly specced but nearly new work pc and it worked fine, so there's no inherent problem with npvr

Teh tests I did was on a W7-32 bit machine, but with a fairly old graphic card.

...although

Quote:Intel® 82915G/82910GL Express Chipset Family
Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator Compatibility w/ DirectX*, OpenGL* & VESA/VBE*

Many applications (especially games) require support for various video/graphics interface standards in order to function properly. Specific requirements for DirectX*, OpenGL* and VESA/VBE* standards are common. The Intel® 82915G/82910GL Express Chipset Family and the Mobile Intel® 915/910GL Express Chipset Family are fully compatible with all of these standards, allowing for a high quality gaming experience.

so not sure why it#s not playing ball...
