Hi

I have been looking for a thread that explains how to do this for a less techie person like me but couldn't seem to find one here? I understand that NPVR can be controlled from other computers both in and outside my home network to schedule recordings (and stream playback?) (via NEWA I think?) and I have seen the tab under NPVR settings which seem to enable this.

However if I enable and then type http://localhost:8866 on a computer on my home network I get an error (cant seem to find the address). Any ideas?

Also for access outside my home network I understand I need to do something with DynDNS and forwarding ports on routers and through firewalls. Is there a simple step by step guide explaining what these terms mean and how I can do all this?

Many thanks

Tim

"localhost" only works from the on the same PC as NPVR. You'll need to use the IP address of the NPVR "server" to access the webadmin from other PCs on your home network.

I set myself up with a DynDNS account and all I had to do was add :8866 to the end of my acount name and I'm in. In NPVR under the 'MVP & Web' area you have to enable the web server, make sure the port is 8866 (or one of your choosing) and give it a username and password.
I just have the basic Windows 7 firewall and I made sure it's allowing that port in and never had to make any changes to my router though you may have to.

Many thanks. The DynDNS account setup is a bit confusing - any tips on what I need to put in where - it seems to want to steer me to a paid for option!

Thanks

To get the free version, go here: http://www.dyndns.com/services/dns/dyndns/
There is an excellent youtube tutorial here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJDM6bt9hFY
