Hi All,

I am having problems getting NPVR set up, the issue seem to be that the applications is taking close to 100% CPU cycles (according to XP task manager).

Hardware is a Dell GX-280, 3GHz P4, 1G RAM and Hauppauge Nova S plus PCI DVB satellite card.

From a clean install of XP Home + SP3, Hauppauge WINTV7AAC-V1.3E was installed. It is able to scan, save and display channels for Optus D1 at 160 degrees.

This may indicate that the OS, Hauppauge WIN TV7 app and DVB card are working OK.

Exiting Hauppauge WINTV7 appears to leave several processes running (at least according to XP task manager) - CAPTUR~3.EXE [SYSTEM], HAUPPA~1.EXE [SYSTEM] and WINTVT~2[owner].

Reboot XP and see if any of these have been re-started. CAPTUR~3.EXE [SYSTEM], HAUPPA~1.EXE [SYSTEM] and now WinTVTray.exe[owner] are running.

Install NPVRSetup_2_1_5.exe, messages are issued:
"DataDirectory registry setting does not appear to be set correctly"
"DataDirectory = C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\NPVR"
"Install Directory = C"\Program Files\NPVR\"

Run NPVR, set all decoders to available ArcSoft types.

Device Setup, select DVB-S card, select DiSEqC, set SAT A to "160.0 Optus D1 FTA", start scan.

29 channels found and saved.

Exit to min screen. Right click, Channels, Double click on TVNZ 7.

Display area is now black, and unlike before CPU utilization has dropped to almost 0%.

I also tried adding composite video to the channel selection, and feeding CVBS with a test signal - again, nothing displayed.

NB Composite video input works fine using Hauppauge WINTV7

Any ideas ?

Thanks,

Mark

Reproduce the problem, then zip and attach npvr.log and nrecord.log and I'll take a look.

One thing you'll need to change is the MPEG2 decoder. You say you've got this set to the ArcSoft decoder. The ArcSoft decoder that comes with WinTV only supports H264, not MPEG2, even though it advertises itself to the system as supporting MPEG2 (which causes it to show up in the MPEG2 decoder list). The WinTV software uses the 'MainConcept (HCW) MPEG-2 Video Decoder' for MPEG2.

Just closed, started NPVR service, then started NPVR. The 'N' inside the task bar logo associated with NPVR turns red. Screen is still black. NPVR is consuming ~30% CPU cycles...

The usual reason for high CPU while sitting at the menu is because direct3d support is unavailable. This is usually because either the user didnt install the directx runtime, or their videocard isnt up to the task.

The next release has a fix for this high CPU when direct3d support is unavailable.

Changing the video decoder to 'MainConcept (HCW) MPEG-2 Video Decoder' for MPEG2. seems to have resolved a lot of stuff. CVBS and Channel One now working.
Thanks, Mark
