Does NextPVR require additional software for the Hauppauge DCR-2650 besides the device drivers to install in Windows 7? The CD that was shipped in the box with it also has a hdhomerun beta software installation .exe file, but the instructions don't tell the user to run/install that. And the software on the Hauppauge website for the DCR-2650 is just the driver files.

However, when I looked at the nrecord.log from NextPVR, it has lines like:
Code:
2011-08-30 08:54:28.918    [DEBUG][13]    checking: HDHomeRun Device 20100465
2011-08-30 08:54:28.918    [DEBUG][13]    enabled and present
2011-08-30 08:54:28.918    [DEBUG][13]    has channel
2011-08-30 08:54:28.918    [DEBUG][13]    live tv is possible
2011-08-30 08:54:28.980    [DEBUG][13]    SetTarget@2
2011-08-30 08:54:28.980    [DEBUG][13]    Executing: C:\Program Files\Silicondust\HDHomeRun\hdhomerun_config.exe 20100465 set /tuner0/vchannel 831
2011-08-30 08:54:29.816    [DEBUG][13]    NIC: Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller
2011-08-30 08:54:29.816    [DEBUG][13]    NIC: Hauppauge OpenCable Receiver (MOCUR-SD)
2011-08-30 08:54:29.817    [DEBUG][13]    Executing: C:\Program Files\Silicondust\HDHomeRun\hdhomerun_config.exe 20100465 set /tuner0/target rtp://192.168.140.210:5001
2011-08-30 08:54:29.877    [DEBUG][13]    SetTarget@2
2011-08-30 08:54:29.877    [DEBUG][13]    Live TV handle: 0x5FC0004

Now, I do have that C:\Program Files\Silicondust\HDHomeRun\hdhomerun_config.exe on my system, but I think that is just because I already have a "classic" HD-HomeRun. If this was a fresh install, I don't think that it would be there.

And, if NextPVR is using/needs the Silicondust software, should I install the beta version that is on the CD I got from Hauppauge? I'm guessing it might have some additional support for the newer devices (the DCR-2650 & the HDHR Prime).

Brett, off topic but I'm curious since SD is involved in some way(s) with the 2650.....have you checked to see if the software that comes from Silicon for the Prime will work with your 2650? I've not followed them but it sure does seem to me that they are very similar.

It does need the Silicondust software installed. It doesnt need to be the beta version from the Hauppauge CD - the latest version from the Silicondust website is also fine, which you've probably already got if you've also got an HDHR in your machine. They use the same software for both the older HDHR and the Prime (and the closely-related DCR-2650). It includes support for both deivces.

I'll be removing the need for that software in the near future though.

They're pretty much same device. Yes, the Silicondust software works with the 2650.

FYI, yesterday SiliconDust released a new version of their software that is supposed to ignore the DCR-2650's. And presumably, the new software that became available on Hauppauge's site yesterday should manage the DCR but ignore the HDHR's.

I haven't installed either yet as I didn't have time last night but I hope to get to it this evening. Hopefully it won't mean any changes are necessary in NextPVR.

I did install the new SiliconDust software last night. And I can confirm that its config GUI now ignores the DCR-2650. So now I can't use that to monitor the status of my 2650. Oh well... It also updated the firmware in my classic HDHR, but not the DCR-2650.

Where is the new Hauppauge software? I couldn't find it in the support pages for the 2650 on their website.

It's on this page: http://www.hauppauge.com/site/support/su...-2650.html

Perhaps this is what came with your tuner and you already have it installed. I got my tuner a week earlier and about the only thing that was on my CD was a beta copy of SiliconDust's software.

Oh. That is just the driver files (.inf, .cat) which were on the CD (along with the HDHR beta software) that was in my box. So it doesn't include any management software nor firmware. Hopefully, Hauppauge will release the 20110830 firmware for the DCR2650 soon, too.

I also installed the HDHR software last night. If you go use the Hauppauge utility and select update drivers, it takes you to the SiliconDust site. I installed it, then read the change log that says it will ignore the DCR.

So I guess that means I need to install what is on my Hauppauge disk or on their website. What functionality does the SD software give? I have not installed that yet so it will be interesting to see what that does. The above link says it is for the INF driver, but has all the files that are on the disk. Hopefully some are newer than the ones sent with the unit. I will check it out when I go home for lunch. I am still looking for a status on TA support since I am crippled until I get that.

With this new update, if you temporarily rename your database (so that it'll create a new one), does the DCR-2650 still show up in the Settings->Devices screen?
