Yeah, I'm using XP with VMR9 Custom on this client. I could put W7 on this box but I wonder if it will perform ok. Thinkpad A50 - P4, 3Ghz 1GB RAM, onboard graphics only. Looking at it I suppose it will be ok...

Quote:Have you tried any other decoders:

I've got ATI CC Multiplexer on there and nothing else (except ffdshow). Not sure where to start with other decoders. This area of the system was always such a time-hole for me!

Quote:It also might be worth checking if the other video renderers behave the same way.

EVR Produces 4:3 aspect with the picture stretched vertically
VMR9 produces huge bars at the top and bottom
VMR9 FSE behaves strangely and usually requires me to reboot to gain control
VMR7 is good except the picture goes DIM when the OSD is displayed
Overlay crashes the computer.

With VMR9 or VMR9 custom your can notice stuttering, you need to use VMR9 FSE for stutter free on WinXP.

VMR9 Custom really was the only one that worked properly. If I use VMR9 FSE then I can't control the computer - the full screen exclusive nature of it just takes over and I can't do anything. Also if I change aspect ratios in this mode then it goes mental and shows an aspect that is tall and skinny and can't be changed. Used to get some stuttering with GBPVR after skipping but NPVR has been fine, maybe a little, but very minor and quite acceptable given that I'm not expect perfection from this box.

Using "nextpvr.exe -no3d" is a good compromise. No swish menus, but gives me low CPU on idle. CPU when playing is about 50-60%. Pretty good result given the age of the machine, cheers. The WAF has taken a dip during this process, but I think it's on the up now. Smile
