My apologies if this request is already in the release and I'm just not seeing it or understanding it.

My cable provider has added some new HD channels. To add them to NPVR, I found the easiest way is to Import... them for my device, and then uncheck all but the channels I know were added.

This WORKS, but I find that I'm doing this for two tuners, each with 135 existing channels. I also have to be very careful that I'm adding the correct ones, because list time I tried this (one of the first NPVR builds) I ended up with a duplicate channel, on a different channel number, that was difficult to remove.

With that said: an option to "Show Only New" channels when importing, or after the import, just toggle that, would be great. Folks could quickly add new channels without too much of a hassle.

Now, maybe this already exists in some fashion I'm not seeing.

Alternately, GB-PVR, during an EPG update, if there was a new channel, would just add it into the guide without a "manual" addition like I have to do with NPVR. An option for this would likewise be nice because I can see where this wouldn't be a good thing for some. I really miss this in NPVR because now I have to think, "I wonder if my provider added any new channels" and compare their guide to NPVR's to spot the difference(s).

When you rescan a tuner, npvr will not show you the channels already mapped, it will only sho new channels that are found. Same channel on different devices can be merged under Settings->Channels, or you can try the Automerge function under Bulk Map.

You can also clone the channels from one tuner to another so long as the tuner being copied to has zero channels (so just delete them before hand if you're doing an update). When you open its settings, NPVR will prompt to do the copy.

@Reddwarf - I have two HD-PVRs and it gets it's channel list from the xmltv.xml guide I download. Not really a channel scan like an over-the-air tuner, is it (never used one)? Perhaps it is, as I mentioned, last time I tried to import the xml I ended up with every existing channel duplicated with their own channel number appended to the existing list. If it no longer does thus, hurray! I'll try it.

@Iain - thanks for that. However, there isn't a way to "select all" that I can find (control-A doesn't seem to work) so I'm back to deleting each of the 135 channels one-by-one in order to clone the device.

Am I still missing something under my nose? A distinct possibility. Smile

DANG IT: Yes it did EXACTLY as before, I imported my XML source and I now have 262 Channels from 135. NOT just the ones that were not already mapped. Despite clicking "Cancel" my channel list is all screwed up with them. *sigh* Time to clean the mess up.

I do stand corrected, Shift+Click lets me select multiple channels, so that isn't so bad.

Try a shift-click to select everything.

Yah, discovered that. We probably clicked "Post Reply" at the same instant.

Which one? I don't have any problems with an option to show new channels, but I'd be against NPVR automatically adding new stuff it finds in the EPG. Here in the UK, we have the best part of 200 odd free channels to pick from, but I'm only interested in about 30-40 of them, and I wouldn't want the others showing up unless I explicitly allow them.

You're pretty lucky, Iain. Where I am in the US we get 4 over the air channels, so we're stuck with cable.

Either of my wishes would be nice, it's up to sub to add them how he sees fit - if at all. The second option would be my choice, but given your point, only if it is an option - maybe a check box "Automatically add new channels as found" or something.

Again, I'm not picky - either idea would be just wonderful.

If it's any consolation, there's only actually about 4 worth watching.
