I usually run the database update at night, so nothing interferes with it.

TCPOptomizer (Google it) can reset winsock/TCPIP very easily for you. It has both resets under the file tab, as well as creating backup settings. I am pretty sure it creates them automatically on the first run so you can import it back, but make one just in case.
