Certainly the first file was corrupt but the second file isn't something I'd consider watchable. It looks like a really poor, low bit-rate mpeg-1 video and it doesn't even play for me with my PVRx2 setting. It clearly isn't a GBPVR recording. Probably the easiest way to deal with this questionable quality is to rename it to .mpeg or use the config.xml setting mentioned early, but you also need to make sure you can play mpeg-1 video with Window Media Player.

THanks for taking a look. Sorry for the duff files although I don't understand what happened with the second. Perhaps cutting it with ffmpeg caused the problem.

I've found a small mpg direct from gbpvr using the Cyberlink mux...

That one seems like a good "real" capture and it plays fine in NPVR for me with the defaults. You should not have to transcode these.

Yep. Plays fine on the server but I get a blank screen on the PC Client. If I recode it to .ts it'll play on both. I gather that this is intended although I'd be very happy to hear any other suggestions!
Thanks.

If you imported your mpg files for playback through the Recordings menu they won't play on the client, but they should play exactly the same on the client and server in the Video Library.

Yes that's exactly right.
THanks for your help on this one.
