I'm trying to set up a client machine and keep getting;
"MachineXXXX\full path to,,,\npvr.db3 is not accessible. You don't got no permission to use this network resource.Contact yourself to see if you have access permissions.
Access is denied."

the OS of the server is XPMCE SP3 and is set to:
server: \\MCE
Database:\\MCE\documents and settings\all users\application data\npvr\npvr.db3 (this Npvr directory is shared)

the would be client is XP pro SP3
server: \\MCE
Database:\\MCE\documents and settings\all users\application data\npvr\npvr.db3

I get the same message when trying to open the directory with explorer but can access other shared folders.

Any ideas?

There are several things to do to get a client working.

1)First is the firewall where you have to check Nrecord.exe and NPVR.exe are in the exceptions.

2)Check \\yourserver\npvr is visible from the client. Select your NPVR server under “Network” and there should be an “NPVR” share. If not you havnt shared the directory correctly. If it’s there make sure you have read and write access to this remote directory.

3) On the client under “Devices” make sure “Server Name” just contains the server name and no “\\” and under “Database Share” you should have "\\yourserver\npvr".

On XP there has been issues sharing "Documents and settings" and everything below, my solution when I used XP was to move the whole npvr data directory to C:\Users\Public and update the registry to point there.

Yes, XP has a folder/file "ownership" issue with everything below "Applications Data" and I got around it by adding the user name from the client pc to the server as admin and taking ownership of of the NPVR folder. So now I can access the folder in Explorer and my guide info and recordings are visible from the client but live TV is "please wait",,,,,,,,,,,,,,,"unable to comunicate,,," and recordings are a blank sceen with only title info. So is that just decoder set up issues? Or should I fudge my reg?

Have you allowed both NextPVR.exe and Nrecord.exe through the firewall on both server and client? I'v experienced that sometimes this has do be done manually.

Then there might be the issue of host(s).dat (which should not need to exist)

But it might help if you post the logs from both client and server.

OK, I'll bite. How may this be achieved?

And is it possible to have both OS's on a dual boot system accessing the same instal of NextPVR on a separate drive (so that guide info, recordings and such is current on both)?

Just make sure you do a separate share for the folder in user data it's hidden by default
Make sure under shared properties everyone can change it or add the user name of the person you sign in under on the client
Or sign in under the same name on both machines

Can we please back up a minute here so I don't get confused.
First question is:
Specifically, what changes are required to the registry if "NPVR Data" folders are moved out of "Documents and Settings" on XP and what is the best method to do so?

Second question:
If a PC running both Win7 & XP(in a dual boot config) can use the same instal of NextPVR from either OS while still keeping ALL the guide info, recorded TV info and video info current (i.e. additions to, watched/unwatched status and deletes)?

Thanks for your input stustunz but I'm not sure what your response applies to or how
stustunz Wrote:Just make sure you do a separate share for the folder in user data it's hidden by default
I need to move the data file on XP because of the file sharing issue. Your response does not specify which folder on which OS

stustunz Wrote:Make sure under shared properties everyone can change it or add the user name of the person you sign in under on the client
Again, which OS are you refering to?

stustunz Wrote:Or sign in under the same name on both machines
I already use the same user ID but as this is a dual boot configuration I'm not sure that would matter because only one OS is "awake".
For the time being I'm trying to migrate to Win7 to see if this makes client setup easier but I'd like to see if I can move my XP data folder and update the registry to get around the sharing issue(which also prevents import of recordings data). And if I can have the two OS's on the same PC work from the same install of NextPVR on a separate drive, that would keep everything in sync(I think).
