This has been happening to me lately as well, I'll go to try and watch something and it will be unable to connect to the recording service. For a while, running the Stop/Start NPVR recording service would work, but now it never works. If I watch Task Manager NRecord.exe briefly pops up, then disappears.

Now all I get is a window:
"Unable to start service: System.ServiceProcess.TimeoutException: Time out has expired and the operation has not been completed.
at
System.ServiceProcess.ServiceController.WaitForStatus(ServiceCOntrollerStatus desiredStatus, TimeSpan timeout)
at NCtrl.Program.Main(String[] args)

Tried with the patch early in this thread, and no change.

Only thing in the NRecord.log is
[...startup]

A little more information. It is starting again. The difference is that now when I am trying it there is not a recording scheduled.

So it would seem that it won't start when there is a recording that needed to start/continue, but when there wasn't one, it starts fine.
Not sure where that gets us, but it is more info.

Reddwarf..

Thanks for your reply and I am glad that the overall user interface is a concern. In me being new to this program and it's configuration, I feel that more extensive setup documentation would keep newbies like me from bugging senior members. Also, would keep ones like me from pulling hairs out of the balding head!

In example, I needed to figure out how to set up the TV Listings plug in, Schedules Direct access, and the whole configuration of this function, which involved me digging up as much info as I could, and much trial and error. I also, am having a very difficult time in figuring out how to get the Music Box plug in set up to access the gigs of music I have on my network drive. One step at a time, and will address this later when other issues are figured out!

I do not know from the senior members viewpoint what the ultimate plan is for this package, but I feel that this can go commercial and be one heckuva money maker.

Just my 2 cents worth! Thanx again!!

For Sub...

With the latest files that I have installed I have the following info:

- nVPR program and recording service are not locking up nor stopping, even after scheduled recordings
- the last scheduled recording for any given time only saves .bif files. No .ts files written
- continuous scheduled recordings will save, except for the last one
- shows that are recorded before last scheduled recording are converting properly to .mp4 and accessible through Roku on other TV set.
- Am able to watch live tv on PC, even after last scheduled recording doesn't save.

May God forbid!!!! But if you value npvr there is a big Donate button on top of all forum pages. I will take this opportunity to encourage everyone that uses npvr to use this button and give Sub a small or big contribution Smile

Well that answers that question, and thanks that this is something being developed for the people and not big business. I definitely will kick some money in a few days and encourage others to do the same. Definitely a breath of fresh air, as I am thrilled that I am no longer paying for Time Warner's cable TV!!

I am giving up on this thread.

I have found a work around by setting up a final recording in a series that I do not care if it records, nor converts to mp4 for Roku or not. The program and Sub's latest files (patches) seems to be fairly stable by using this approach.

I will follow other threads, in which I am noticing others having somewhat related problems.

You should just be able go to the Collections/Paths tab of the Music Box config and then Add Path - > Browse For Folder -> Network -> ServerName and then drill down as far as you'd like and then hit OK.
