I have had an odd crash before I added the recent updates where the system took 2 ½ hours to detect that NRecord was not running!
03:25 Resume to start recording 03:30 15 minute recording
03:48 Async Stop taking way too long
03:52 Computer sleeps
04:55 Computer resumes to start 05:00 2½ hour recording
05:00 Computer sleeps (presumably because NRecord not running)
07:20 Computer resumes to make 07:25 recording
07:23 NRecord crash with usual .NET error
07:24 NRecord restarted
Starts recording 07:25 recording and the last 5 minutes of 05:00 recording

Earlier there was a “Device failed to start” error for each of the DVB-T mux scans during EPG update. This may not be connected as the device started normally for the 03:30 recording.

Hello Sub,

I've installed the Patch R2. Which version of the unmanaged.dll is included in this Patch? Because I had two recordings in the morning, the first was recorded but ended with hanging after
"No more streams active. Stopping device.
Graph stopping..."
and because of this the second recording didn't start (NRecord.zip). Is the unmanaged.dll from post #20 compatible with the R2-Patch? I will try.

The second problem was, that after installing the R2-Patch I decided to Update the EPG via the system-plugin. The result was a crash of nvpr after a few minutes in
"Name der fehlerhaften Anwendung: NextPVR.exe, Version: 1.0.0.0, Zeitstempel: 0x4e9081d5
Name des fehlerhaften Moduls: KERNELBASE.dll, Version: 6.1.7601.17651, Zeitstempel: 0x4e211319"
with a crash.mdmp-file. Probably this can help finding the problem that causes nrecord.exe to hang? (nvpr-crash.zip)

I tried loading up that crash dump, but it looked like the process was mostly gone by the time the dump was taken. It only had two threads running, neither of which was doing anything particularly helpful.

Your logs look like you dont have <CollectEIT> set to false as recommended with the patch posted earlier.

I also installed the patch and set CollectEIT to false in config.xml a couple of days ago.

So far the recording service hasn't crashed, but previously it had been crashing around once per week so two days is a little early to say that it has been successful.

everyone should be aware that the R2 cumulative patch includes the patches provided in post 6 of this thread (which don't do anything different unless you actually make the config.xml setting described), but does not include the update in post 20 of this thread. that patch is listed in the patch list as patch #40, the first post-R2 patch. sub says that patch only restores missing logging messages, it doesn't actually fix anything (but I'm willing to be corrected).

Yes that's right, I've disabled this again, because how I mentioned a few posts before, with this setting I still had problems: I had a hanging nrecord.exe-process and of course no EPG-Information. So I rolled back.

Use that most recent version of unmanaged.dll, and set <CollectEIT> to false, then reproduce the problem and post the logs and I'll take another look.

Looking at those logs, it looks like the attempted work around this patch didnt help, and this age old problem can still occur. We've seen it since way back since the GBPVR days, but we're definitely seeing more reports of it in the last couple of months, I still have no idea what causes it, and never been able to reproduce it here.

For me it seems to usually occur when I have more than one show recording. In my last log both shows were on the same tunner,
perhaps multirecord is having an issue.
