In the UK they don’t seem to broadcast any data to help avoid duplicate recordings so many days I end up deleting over half the previous days recordings. For several programmes I have over 30 episodes recorded and over the weekend managed to free up over 70GB of space by manually locating those with the same Sub Title which is a slow process.

Several channels have a format where the same programme is repeated several times, some 2 or 3 times in 24 hours on others up to 5-6 times over a week. Would it be possible to have the option to avoid duplicate recordings if the Sub Title is already in the database?

There is a stack of EPG source that populate the subtitle with a generic description, which is the same for every episode. You often see this on specific shows, or even entire channels.

Here in Norway they tend to put the series and episode in the description field, like (6/s8), so I added an advanced rule to exclude all episodes where description contains '/s8)', and it works Smile

Under my “What’s New” in “Recordings” there are 21 recordings after deleting others as duplicates or watched and 9 have a sub title. There is a range of info put in the programme description and only one had an episode number. However just looking at those with a Sub Title most have four words or less for the episode title so it could be used as a duplicate recording detector but only for those programmes with a sub title.

I had a look at the database with the idea of doing some searches to manually find existing duplicates. However I am unable to find the location of “Description” for existing recordings!

Description is only found in the table EPG_EVENT. Once a recording is completed this information is contained in the xml-data belonging to the recording (either stored as an alternate stream in the actual recording file or as a separate xml-file, dependent of your setting in Config.xml).

Description is in the scheduled_recordings table as part of the event_details meta field.

The database tables are definitely something that sub designed for himself with no real thought to how users or developers might want to enhance the NPVR experience using it. A few of use tried to persuade sub to change some things but we weren't very successful. There are certainly pluses and minuses to the one man approach.

Thanks for the help, the reason I had a problem finding the description was that I was using SQLite Adminstrator which dosnt seem to display or search past 50th character. I have tried several other SQLite GUI and they all display all the description data.
