A quick update on this in case anyone else has the same issues and finds this thread:

processexplorer shows multiple threads belonging to NRecord, and periodic disk access and network access, but it is the NRecord.exe that is using the CPU cycles...so no real progress there...

I've re-installed Tiny7 on a proper HD and the periodic CPU usage is still there. I even tried several versions of the VC runtime and .NET runtime, but the problem persists. I'll have to bite the bullet and try the full win7 install to see if that fixes the problem, otherwise i guess it's back to XP (but for how long...?) or try something other than NPVR, but i really don't want to go there.

I understand what you're saying, but whilst it doesn't appear to be causing any issues right now it 'isn't right', and amongst other things it will prevent the HTPC form going to sleep.

Have you tried MCE Standby Tool.

This one isn't fighting his periodical cpu usage of nrecord.exe on his tiny 7 system. On a healthy system, something like "mce standby tool" isn't necessary. Especially under windows 7 you can fix causes of failed standby modes by executing "powercfg -requests" and solving related 'problems' (open databaseshares on networkconnections, as an example).

@Stuart_P
You should really try a "normal" win 7 installation. I made never good experience with "nLite/vLite/tiny" versions of windows. The creators of those versions often just don't know, what they're doing. They are playing around, remove this, remove that, tryout ... "oh fine, it works for me" until someone else comes and say "hey, xyz isn't working anymore.". So they bring out a new version and call it "bugfixed".
I can only confirm, that none of my win 7 machines (32/64 Bit) has any problems with S3 (suspend to ram) while running NextPVR. I am running the recording service as backgroundservice. How did you configured it?
You like nPVR? Then please help pay the bills, and keep the project alive!

ShiningDragon, I've tried the Nrecord as backround service and the other way (same result).

Everyone,

Thanks to those who replied for their suggestions and help. I dusted off the Win7 (proper version) DVD and did a fresh install. After doing the necessary upgrades etc I installed NPVR and CPU usage is now at 0-4% idle ! NO periodic spikes from NRecord. Big GrinBig GrinBig Grin

So, it looks like TinyXP will run NPVR and NRecord fine, Ive been using it for as long as ive been using NPVR. MicroXP (an even smaller version) wont run NPVR, in fact it wont do a lot of things!

and

Tiny7 will not run NRecord without this CPU issue, at least it wont on my system Sad.

I guess the creator took out just one too many things, so after putting all 10GB of Win7 bulk back on I'm up and running.

Now to fine tune my NPVR setup and boost the WAF.

Thanks

Stuart
