Hello,

I've read the other threads about virtual memory size, and I am not 100% sure this is the same issue. In any case, I am putting it here for Reven to test it out when he has time:

I have a JPG file that consistently causes MyPictures to scream it's out of memory. I have noticed that it does that only when there are a sufficiently large number of files in the directory.

The file is attached. If I put it alone in some dir - it's fine. But it is on a CD that I have, and there are 514 files in that directory. The significance of 512 is not lost on me... However, I copied the entire dir to my harddisk, and saw that it still does this. I removed the read-only attrib, and that didn't help.

Having removed one file to see if the relative position matters proved that it doesn't. I then removed 129 more files, still no luck. I then removed another 128 file, and were left with 256 files. Still no go. Removed 2 more (total=254) still bad. Removed 126 more (total 128) - GOOD! No problem viewing the file.

it will be one image, that it just cant generate a thumbnail for, add that directory directly to the virtual root and do a "scan" in the config, which will automatically generate thumbnails, it will tell you where it has problems generating thumbnails (usually this only happens of very large images).

Well, having done that I came up with an interesting find:
1. The file is just fine - like I told you before, when I put it alone in a directory it's just fine.
2. Any GIF87a files cause out-of-memory, while GIF89a files are fine. Is this something I missed from the plugin's description?

one might ask why are you using gif for photos? how large are the gif87a files?

tipstir - I wish it was...
reven - well, that is a collection from before the days of JPGs.
The GIF87a files are all small in both dimensions and size. Size is typically around 40-100 KB.
Perhaps these are progressive GIFs?

honeslty i have no idea, some gifs can be tricky, the easiest solution would probably just find a program that can do a batch convert of all those gifs to jpeg format.
