MCE compatible remote not working

I have installed NPVR as an alternative to wmc which is too slow at menu transitions. NPVR only recognises,some of the remote keys. The fast forward, backward, number keys do not work. they work fine in wmc.

Any suggestions as to how I can tell how they are being handled so I can map them to something useful? I have tried intelliremote and th hid diagnostic tool but some of the problem keys do not register a code...

You can try EventGhost. It's quite flexible and can be mapped to all NPVR keyboard commands (see wiki). You can also have it increase the the volume by x% and decrease by x% ( i use 7% up/14%down) But if you have a Hauppauge remote you may need the regedit patch and merge it with the registry before EG will see it.

also you should disable windows multi media features (wmc) I found that it was conflicting with NPVR and that may be the cause of the problems you describe.

I use, and really like, LM Remote which should work with your MCE remote too.

Your remote is probably only sending in key strokes and looks like a keyboard to your computer. You can use an application like HIP to try to remap your keys, but that didn't work for my remote. I used HIP to learn the keystrokes my remote was sending. I then modified the keymapplings.xml in npvr to match my remote.
