I wish I could help tonight but late in UK now so off to bed. Have no doubt that now with logs someone really helpful will come along! I'll watch progress on this thread in morning UK as I think some good stuff here for the wiki!

cheers

Code:
2012-01-18 07:06:47.022    [DEBUG][1]    Adding system HE-AAC decoder
2012-01-18 07:06:47.023    [ERROR][1]    Unable to find named decoder

I do not have an HE-AAC decoder installed, and AC3 filter was not a selectable option. Only option is "disabled". What should I go get?

I don't see a major problem. AC3 is in the graph twice; I've seen that in my systems in the past, but I can't remember how to correct it. I don't think it is fatal, however. One thing is a mention of "HD audio Rocket" which I think is the audio renderer. I'd recommend setting your audio renderer to Default, at least for now.

Overall, there are more filters in the graph than I would expect, maybe someone else can ID a problem. I see a reference to madVR. If you installed that, you should remove it for now, as definitely not needed for US recorded TV.

This is about all I can offer.

You don't need a HE-AAC decoder for US TV. You can ignore the message in the log. You do need an MPEG audio decoder for analog SDTV and a AC3 decoder for HDTV. The US does not use HE-AAC encoded audio for broadcast TV.

Switching to "default" for audio renderer fixed the problem with live tv audio. It was set up this way originally, and did not work. I recall that I ran into the same problem upon first dealing with prior version of npvr. After tinkering it started working. Forgot about that! Dunno why?? I did install the ffdshow filter earlier. Should I uninstall it? Also, I am not getting dolby surround input to the receiver. Spdif is the connection used..

Thanx! Other issues will be in different threads!

I would remove ffdshow if I were you. It has been nothing but trouble for me, and I have had no issues with the MS DTV-DVD decoder. On the other hand, others here swear by ffdshow, especially on XP which does not include a MPEG decoder, thus needing a 3rd party one. I swear at it. Smile

You don't need it if you are not trying to do something advanced with the playback. I'm satisfied with plain old TV.

Win Vista has been nothing but a pain for me... Have other puters running XP, and they remain friendly after a good setup. Vista just likes to change in how it tries to keep me happy. Win 7 stays stable like XP without the setup hassles. I will wait for more input before I delete ffdshow. Want to keep this system lean and mean. Thanx for your input!!
